Has anyone on here took their TDi FR on a trackday yet. How did the brakes and DPF hold up?

I am doing a trackday in Belgium in october, and was curious how they perform?

It would ruin the day if the DPF light came on in the second session!

Seeing as the DPF should only give problems when you poodle round at low revs under 30-40mph, unless you are planning to enter the over 80's TrackDay/Knitting Competition/Sherry Tasting Day I think you should be ok.... Oh and no I havne't been on a trackday sorry, but I remember reading a review of the FR Petrol vs Diesel and it said that on a track the difference is even smaller in performance :) (Not that its that big to start with :p)

If you are on a track day going hell for leather must surely generate more soot. Look at a non DPF equipped car when they give it a bootful it kicks out a shed load of black smoke. Therefore would you not expect the dpf to fill up quicker?

Having said that though the exhaust will be much hotter due to the increased engine loading and exhaust gases so they may well balance one another out. Oh and dose it with Millers.

Have a go if you have no problems let us know I wouldn't mind a crack at a track day but my cahoonas are obviously not very big might be better with the knitting comp or sherry tasting!!!!!

Yes, I would imagine there is potential for DPF issues at both end of the driving style spectrum. But hopefully, a super hot DPF can burn the soot quick enough.

I wonder how a mapped FR would cope though, that would = even more soot than normal....

Good luck in Belgium, have fun and let us know how you get on :)

Actually when accelerating diesel cars make more smoke. The DPF's cause problems for people round town, not beacuse the car is travelling slowly, but because it is constantly accelerating, and not running at a constant speed/load (much like a track day).

I have'nt had problems with the DPF but at sustained high rpm the engine derates [ECU picks up excesive internal eng temps] would suggest you look for a good size charge air cooler for trouble free high speed runs
for starters.

I take it your still impressed with the millers :)

I still maintain that the extra soot etc produced by flooring it will be outweighed by the high revs and temp of the exhaust but I am CERTAINLY no expert just using logic...

After all what is the advice if you get the DPF light... floor it for a bit at high revs!

How many laps would you expect to do on a track day? I have no idea as I have never done one...

too right best bit of advice I've ever received!!! Might be taking it a bit far but you get the point! The car hasn't missed a beat since I started using it and no DPF light

Whilst not feeling like the additional power they quote on the bottle it does feel like it has made a difference much stronger surge in the mid range.

Anyway back on point. You are right about the advice given in the manual

When you say it derates does that mean it loses power? That might explain why it felt a bit sluggish in the heat today, or would that have no bearing?

I did a trackday in my FR tdi last year @ Knockhill and had no problems mpg showed 26.5mpg it was in the wet too, brakes were ok better than i expected, take a break every so often to let the car cool down and expect to be passed a lot.
