My previous two vauxhalls were far ahead of the seat in terms of build quality/paint quality .

I have heard a few Nurbugring vxrs have had problems, it is quite strange though, as like the K1 they are identical mechanically to the standard car, just a different tailpipe ?

My first car was a fiat *lol* It rusted a bit !!! I love the look of the new Brava though ...

I am a Punto man of 9 years, first the 1.2 8v, then the 1.4 8v turbo :) Both were a leap over previous Fiats, and things have only got better since then. But anyway, back to the original question. Assuming you keep the TDI vs VXR, then get the TDi for financial reasons, get the VXR for performance reasons. If you are comparing the Cupra, then I myself would get the Cupra. Only because I need 5 doors, and I bought the car with a view to remap / mod so the headroom on the original turbo is much higher that say the ST.

I had a race with a vxr down two dual carriageways in my remapped TFSI i dont Know if VXR was remapped but he put up a little fight down the first one but on the way back up i destroyed him and out handled him on a few roundabouts:lol:. In no way can a vauxhall VXR compare with a cupra or a remapped TFSI. I hate diesels and on a sprint they always get destroyed please dont think of any diesel as performance cars because you will get no satisfaction from driving one hard and it will have to be special situations to let you beat or even have as much fun as a turbo petrol driven Seat or VXR for that matter:whistle:. If you're thinking diesel or VXR get VXR, if your thinking VXR or Cupra/TFSI get Seat.

To be fair, a remapped TFSi is not gonna blow away an Astra VXR bud. Remaps and additional components give similar power.

TFSi Stock = 200bhp
TFSi + Remap = 250bhp
TFSi + Remap + Intake = 265bhp
TFSi + Remap + Intake + Intercooler + Pump = 280-290bhp

VXR Stock = 240bhp
VXR + Remap = 260bhp
VXR + Remap + Intake + TBE = 280bhp
VXR + Remap + Intake + TBE + Intercooler = 295bhp

Cupra on the other hand ;)
Cupra Stock = 240bhp
Cupra + Remap = 305bhp
Cupra + Remap + TBE + Intake = 325bhp
Cupra + Remap + TBE + Intake + Fuel Pump + Intercooler = 340bhp

Vxr is 237 stock ;) and over 300 tuned ... Begins to get pointless when you are trying to put it through the front wheels though, if you are looking for that kind of power buy a car which can use it imo ....

If you destroyed it he wasnt` trying , a fair few times I have had people 3 inches from my bumper, I speed up a bit and they either back off or go flying past, and no doubt go and post on corsas-r-us.com that they whipped me *lol*

The whole business of racing is very subjective.

I used to think yeah I've kept up with a 3 series BMW or whatever back in the day when I had a 1.1 Escort, but in all honesty they probably weren't trying.

Same goes the other way now, I think I'm not even going to try keeping up with that joker. Happend the other week a 1.2 Clio burned me off round a roundabout, or at least thats what I bet he was telling his mates in the pub afterwards.

I don't even bother trying to keep up with other cars no matter what they are, I like a bit of fun, but call me boring but don't want to risk my license.

.....with stage 4, courtesy of a bigger turbo ;)

Or of course optimistic rollers with a standard turbo, or stage 3 plus manifolds etc :)

All rollers are a guess anyway, only way to get an accurate figure is to get it on a bench, transmission loss is a guess, and top line bhp is just a tiny piece of the jigsaw, how the car drives is whats important at the end of the day, Bhp figures are for the pub !!

Wheel horsepower is useful too though. Some Leon Cupra TFSi's have the same wheel hp as VXR's do at the fly :p

One particular r/r I know of saw a Stage 1.5 Cupra out do a stage 2 VXR by approx 40bhp at the wheels ;)

apologies if this has been mentioned before, but i say astra 1.9 cdti 888 edition.
theres a 5th gear video on youtube vxr vs 1.9cdti 888. off the line the vxr goes ahead, but in 4th from a rolling start the vxr had no chance.

on top of that you get nice big brakes, vxr kit, nice big wheels too. only 100 made so very desirable

There is one of these in my home town and it does indeed go quite well :)

Owen will recall having seen it ;)

Spot on, again pub talk though *lol* Every car has it merits , if I was wanting out & out power I would be buying an s3 though, as too much power through the front wheels is pointless imo , my old car struggled for traction at 70+ in the damp ...

I love the Cupra Btw , in case anyone thinks I am slating it !!! And an anti VX bit here ... Wouldn`t have a 888 , just a mapped sri ....

40bhp more at the wheels in a car of similar weight and shape is gonna mean a faster car though bud, and thats the whole point of a hot hatch.

The 888 has uprated parts other than just a remap over the SRI by the way ;)

Not denying it dude ...

I know the 888 has brakes, suspension, zorst and wheels, but when you sit in it, it`s an sri, interior is bog standard .. I looked at a T9 when buying the leon, and it just didn`t do it for me ....

i'll agree the interior isnt anything special, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder! i'd be able to forgive the interior for only £120 more than a sri!!!
all those extras for only £120?? you'd be crazy not to take it over a normal sri

Believe me he was trying, its my friend and we go at it from time to time and he said he was trying dam hard. My mods are a Dbilas intake, S3 intercooler, neuspeed power pulley kit, forge dv, eurojet pcv kit, sfs hoses, eibach springs, ATP 3 inch downpipe and revo. I even eat m3 evo's for lunch and they have over 300bhp. Believe me when i say my car pulls and very soon it will be stage 2. I was at Castle combe at the Audi track day and i was pulling away from a ottenger edition 30 gti down the straights and leaving him in the corners not to mention a few high powerd estates and pesky MK2 gti's:D. You can also get 290 bhp without a pump, the pump's just for mid range torque where the stock pump cant flow so much and you start getting fuel cuts. If you're car is set up correctly you can get 290 without fuel cuts.

All that could be said, but if you decided you want any real proper fun from your car the diesel engine would quickly end it with its sound, lack of outright pace and that very very very boring on a straight road, nightmarish thing that they call the 4.5k redline, its the thing that ends dreams of performance and sound.
