12volt cigarette power rating?

I've recently bought a 12volt heater and it states that it pulls 13amp of power and I was wondering what the current limit is with the cigarette lighter in the ibiza (54plate).

I would have checked my handbook but ive lost it during a recent house move.

IIRC it is at least a 20 amp fuse so 13 amp will be more than fine

The lighter ring pulls a fair bit more than 13 amps I reckon

The easy way is to read the book but failing that just plug it in and if it does blow the fuse you just need to go looking for the only blown one in the fuse box, that will be the one in question............

i was tempted to give it a try until i saw my dads focus with 12v 10amp stamped on the front. im guessing in the fuse box it will be a fuse just for itself and not connected to any other systems power ?

Yeah it will be a fuse for just the lighter, as you have seen any car that has just got a charger or 12 volt outlet normally says on it what sort of amps you can draw. If it doesn't say anything you can draw as much as is required to make a metal coil glow red hot so 18 amps is well under that

the best way to check is to take the fusebox cover off and see what size fuse powers the cigarette lighter, if its rated higher then your heater then theres no problem, if its lower then it will just blow striaght away
