Hi guys, new to the boards but hopefully if things go my way it wont be the last time i use them.

I'm 17 and currently on the look out for my new car, at first i was looking for a lupo, but as they are a bit to pricey for me i have had to widen my search. Anyway i came across an X plate arosa sport, with 47,000 on the clock, for under 2 grand.

Just wondering if anyone thought it could be too good a deal to be true? Must it have some faults?

Cheers,

Pete

hia mate, just noticed ure name are u a mackem like, just cos i am.

Anyway if its the 1.4s that you mean then thats probably about right

If its the 14. 16v Sport, then it sounds a bit cheap mate

Would definately reccomend a seat as a first car like!

Online buyers' guides (Parkers, Wisebuyers, etc) are suggesting £1650-£2200 for a 2001X-plate 1.4 Sport with 48k miles. Depends a lot on the following
  • Does it have a full history or verifiable mileage?
  • Is it a 2000 X-plate or a 2001?
  • What condition is it in?
  • Is it a private seller or a dealer?
  • How much of a hurry are they in to sell the car?

Can't see anything quite as cheap as that in Auto Trader, assuming it's definitely the 1.4 Sport model. That's more important since ultimately a car's worth is defined by what people are willing to pay/accept for it, not by what the guide books say.

Definitely wouldn't say it's "too good to be true" though, just at the low end of the price range. In the current economic climate there's a million and one reasons why someone would want to shift their car quickly, even if it means discounting it in the classifieds.

G

For some reason Parkers tend to undervalue the higher model Arosas (and Lupos), so you'll pay a bit more than the book price for a good one :)

Yeapp its defo a sport, anyone know of any common faults that i should look out for?

Cheers

Pedal box from what I have heard. Also check that it has the central exhaust, sounds a bit daft but, there have been some shockers. Do your usual checks for rust, service, timing belt at regular intervals etc etc ....

Is it a mk1 or mk2 arosa, the mk1 will be worth less, so maybe that explains the price?

Yes, watch out for the pedal box, a heavy clutch often causes that to break away, meaning your clutch wont work. Also gearboxes are a little soft on sports, ive heard of a fair few having to have the gearbox reconditioned or replaced, which int cheap! So check that.

You need good history with it.

Cambelts are a must every 40K miles or 4 years - which ever comes first. Its a good idea to replace the water pump too, as it can break or start to leak, meaning your engine will get too hot and sieze up! If its not in its service history then id worry, and definitely make that the first thing you do, or you will be buying a new engine!

Oh and good choice, Arosas are miles better than lupos anyway!

Going to see the car on saturday, started looking for parts etc already, cant help myself. Really like the AEZ Xylo's that you have GG, thinking about getting some for mine, if/ when i get it.

They do them in black but, I couldnt wait. They kerb like mad though lol

Went to see it yesterday, Stirling to aberdeen and back down in five hours in the pishing wind and rain.

Should be getting it on monday or tuesday, cannie wait. My dad just says the breaks are a bit weak need to get that seen to, this common or should i just wait to see what the service says.

Worth getting the brakes checked as everyone has their own preference and you can never be too safe. Good work though :D dont forget to put some pictures up :D:D:D:D

hi mate , i was going to look at the same arosa sport , the reason why its soo cheap is because hte guy is desperate to sell it as its been up for a good couple of weeks if not shy of 2 months

Is it a Mk1 sport then?

Brakes should be ok, ive not driven a sport but my TDi has the same front brakes and i cant really fault them too much. SPorts have rear discs brakes so they shoul be better.

Maybe its due a set of discs and pads, also dpends what the quality of discs and pads are it had. Oh and it may need a brake fluid change - thats every 2 years.

Congrats on the purchase, get some pics up when you get it

Yeah it's a mk 1, yeah i hope its nothing to major.

Cheers for all your help on this.

If it's a mk1, I do find the brakes on mine need to be used with conviction, but once you get used to that they can pull you up quite well :)

Brake fluid change and pad/disk inspection won't do any harm though.

Yeahh I could probably manage to get some, dont think they will burst the bank.
