Hello i am David and i am 17 years old and Swedish, i have a ibiza 1,8 l and i will change the engine in it. What do you recommend the vr6 or g60? What is the easiest to put in?

I'm competition in sound quality in EMMA, so my car is a little bit heavier than the original:happy:
Thanks for taking your time :)

Sorry for the bad English MVH David

I'd go with the VR6. It's a little more powerful as standard, probably more reliable and doesn't have a supercharger which needs regular, expensive reconditioning.

okey and how was it hard/ easy?
how did yo do whit the electrical? Did you change from the engine to the data or the hole system?

whole engine, wiring loom & ECU will be needed.

Both are 'old' engines, why not put a newer type in like 1.8T?

I think it`s gonna be cheaper whit a vr6 or G60, but i`m not shore

yea id go VR6 for the torque and the sound i think if its carrying a bit of weight...

very interesting and useful site here

gives you details about the wiring side of things too

Thanks this will be useful if i got a vr6, i think its gonna be a vr6:)

Vr6 all the way...try to buy a whole car as it will make things alot easier and give you more options on how you want to do it mechanically and eletrically!

For the record though the subframes are EXACTLY the same, wishbones, hubs, brakes and antiroll bars etc are different but then you could 5 stud convert it?

Or you could use the central subframe and build 2.0 litre 16v Ibiza wishbones, hubs, brakes and ARBs onto the subframe!

Or use the whole vr6 setup and bolt the 4 stud hubs onto the vr6 wishbones or if possible build a 4 stud hub out of a combination of the 2 hub setups? This is what im trying to accomplish as the vr6 wishbones seem abit bulkier and stonger and may widen the track!

More will come clear once i've stripped the subframes more and done some vital measuring and mock setups etc...keep watching my build thread as i'll keep posting my progress!

There's 3 different types and even they vary  lol

Basically:

2.8 175bhp OBD1 comes with distributer and a certain throttle body and inlet (VW Golf)

2.9 190bhp OBD1 as above but with slightly different throttle body (VW Corrado)

2.8 175bhp OBD1 with coilpack but same throttle body and inlet setup (VW Golf)

2.8 185bhp OBD2 coilpack and different throttle body and inlet setup (VW Golf)

(Dont think the 2.9 ever came with a coilpack setup???)

As fas as i know OBD2 came in after 1996 but its best to look as you can tell the difference by looking at the throttle bodies.

I've got an OBD2 as i've heard the injection system is slightly better.
Someone else on here has used a 2.8 OBD1 unsure if its distributer or coilpack type but has used the 2.9 OBD1 throttle body which is an advantage of the OBD1.

Swings and round abouts if you ask me

okey thanks so a 96 or newer ?

I'd say the best one you can get your hands on for the money you want to spend...there isnt going to be alot of noticeable difference between the standard setups. I'm sure most of it will be interchangable aswel, dont hold me to that though!

hello all:D now i have bought a passat vr6 93 whit coilpack, for my conversion :)
can you say how much can i use from the passat? can i use the subfram etc ?
