Hi

Am new here so forgive me if this has been done before....
I have been looking at some ST Focus'es (FocI?).
Anyway, my much better half said why not look at other makes. So, there I was today looking at an 08 Leon Cupra with the K+ bodykit & Zenon's in a sort of black colour. 16K done 14K miles....
My question is:-
Why would I buy this instead of an ST Focus??? (Apart from the fact your club web site is heaps better!!!)

Subtlety, economy and performance. Although as the one you looked at was a K1, drop the subtlety.

The K1 kit polarises opinion, the cupra is good with or without it. If you're looking, make sure you get one with bluetooth.

The k1 Cupra is way better than a Ford clitoris (every c***'s got one). It's better on fuel, quicker, looks better and it has VW/Audi underpinnings.

The only thing about the Focus that is better is the 5 cylinder soundtrack.

why should you get 1?
resale value is better for starts , power is miles better than the ST , check my sig for standard power output , no chav image driving a leon , 4 doors standard , remap instant 300 bhp , fuel economy is a different world , standard equipment is great , brakes are just fantastic , need i go on?

i test drove an ST when i was looking and tbh not a lot in it between the 2 for me , but seeing my previous car was a mk1 leon and based on how good they were i stuck with SEAT.

I'd get the cupra - its the same car underneath but it's more stealth. you can spend the extra duckets on a huuuuge turbo...

Go for the cupra, theres not alot in it standard but if you plan on modding even if its just a remap you carnt beet 300bhp for £500 and theres no need to buy a huge turbo the k04 is good for 360bhp thats enough in a fwd car! k1 or normal cupra it depends if you want to be subtle or not.

very well put, and lets face it everyone with an ST is just gona wish they'd saved and got the RS once there are a few about:cartman:

This is so true, but even the RS kinda makes my point. It is a truly great drivers car, don't get me wrong BUT fake carbon dash trim??? Non-functional intakes on the wings and under the headlights? That would just bug the hell outta me every time I look at it. I'd rather have the Meganne - and that's really saying something!

It doesn't really matter which one is point one second quicker to 150 or whatever - you'll never use it to that extent in the real world. It's all about being happy living with the car.

At the end of the day it's an emotional decision, you can try to justify it as much as you like, but it's the heart that will open the wallet. Which do you prefer?

For me there are plus points to both cars.

Focus ST sounds great, looks good, excellent handling, reasonable ride, has a good following and certainly seems to the the better choice of the usual 2 cars people blind themselves in to choosing - The Astra VXR and Focus ST which is a shame as they are both outclassed by VAG cars.

The thing is though the Leon Cupra is on my drive and I tossed up between the Focus ST and the Cupra. The reasons I chose it are rarity, lower tax and better mpg, better standard power, better standard brakes, better seats and driving position, better to drive, more tunable, more reliable, q car factor.

For what its worth, you buy a hot hatch for performance. I would bet on a Leon Cupra being faster than a Focus ST in both standard and tuned form. My Cupra as standard made 14.3secs @ 101.2mph which is way better than a stock Focus ST. Add stage 2+ to see that figure change to 13.5 secs @ 110+mph which is faster than a Wolf converted Focus with a big turbo at huge expense.

Add to that the fact that you can get a 2007 Cupra for as little as £12.5k now - you cannot go faster for less money in a sub 3 year old hot hatch especially with a £500 remap on it.

Hmmmm not sure about a re-map... let's get the car first!!! Have driven quite a few ST's & while it is good I was not blown away. Had a go in a Civic Type R, didn't really like it but that could be something to do with the **** salesman..... Got to drive a Leon FR Diesel, which is has to be said for an oil burner really impressed me! Anyway the Cupra just sat there, with its K1 spoliers an' all so we will see.....

thanks very much for all you comments, you are a very user friendly bunch unlike the st'ers!

Remember the Cupra can be had without the Aero Bumpers and K1 central exhaust.

PS - What are the ST guys saying?

Wouldnt want to start any interforum wars, but one would expect them to back their car over ours just as we back ours over theirs. Just surprised they are not friendly.

rarer, faster, drinks less petrol. really cheap to get big power.

The ST sounds better though.

It's not so much what the ST mob say, as how difficult it was to get on their forum site! To be fair I don't need to ask them what an ST Focus is like as I have already made my mind up. As I said earlier, good but it didn't blow me away.
Their forum site covers all the ST breed, but was just so awkward to use. Not only that it took me over a week to get signed up!!!!!
