Vr6 conversion?

Well i was meant to get my brand new leon cupraR this month but ive been made reduntant so thats gone out the scence Im currently training to be a driving instructor but it takes 5-8months to complete it so im working part time atm , so im not on great wage! ive saved a fair few pennis luckly enough and ive been thinking about a conversion for a while! A mate did his g40 conversion and i love it but want something with more more, id love to buy a cupra but obvs cant afford one and ive been offered a vr6 68k on the clock complete engine/gearbox/loom etc for £400 from a mate! Has anyone done it before? i think the engine mounts are the same aswell? any advice is greatfull, oh and i love the look on my car so i wuldnt mind getting a bit more power than 70bhp

We were chatting about this the other week, the mk2 and mk3 bays are very similar, so shouldn't be too bad, search in the mk2 section

should be a fairly straight forward conversion.
i believe the sub frame is the same
you might have to pick up a cupra sub frame or the one from the donor car!
the worst parts will be wiring it up and plumbing it in!

Yeah there was a lad on here who did it to his mk2 ibiza. He was selling it recently aswell so look him up for a possible thread? Love the idea... i've been tempted so many times to chuck the cupra in for a mk3 golf vr6 but it's not as aggressive which I'd miss.

Yeah it's pretty much just the sound that makes me moist tbh! I have one local to me that I just p*ss all over so I wouldn't be happy with that. Mind you, think i've caught the dub bug since ultimate dubs...

Yeeeer , ive got the bug aswell , ive gone through every golf built , from wanting mk1/2/3/4 lol but im looking at mk3 vr6 golfs now beccause ive been in my mates mk3 gti 16v an they handle a million times better than the ibiza because of the ibiza having a smaller axel on the rear. Im pricing some up this week and if they are cool , im gunna go test a few , sell the ibiza then! but maybe but the porker rims on the mk3

2.8 (or 2.9 if out of a corrado) VR6 will make your car very nose heavy, I would go with a light weight turbo engine just my 2 pence though

well as i said im looking into it i might even look at the 2litre 16v gti , because ive it will be a tad faster than my ibiza 8v hehe

hmmmm ive seen a few around me for £3k , i dno if the insurence would be ski high compared to the gti? also im getting bored of my ibiza altough i still love them theres nothing much else i can do to her imo

Do the VR6 conversion. It'd be awesome and there are supercharger kits available for these engines too which can take them easily to 320bhp.

The engine mounts are the same for all golf variants and the engine will simply bolt in. The engine is best from an earlier car as you don't need the clocks for the ECU/immobiliser. Also the Sharan VR6 engine doesn't need the clocks. Later cars will.

The gearbox from a diesel to handle the torque is a good idea and bolts on easy enough too (so I've been told).

The tricky bit is getting a down pipe with the flexi section for a MK2 golf, but I think you may be OK with the OEM one for an Ibiza - not totally certain though. One can be made up from bits without too much hassle I would have thought.

if you do not decide to go ahead with the conversion can u tell your friend i will give him £400 for the engine and everything else i need to do it now,

i have been tlking with my mechanic friend and also tlking to strictly dubs (vw specialist in conversions near me) and i have found out that this is very easy to do,


basically the vr6 engine uses the same engine mounts so it goes straight in the ibiza

u then need to get the clutch actuator mechanism from a mk2 abf gearbox to convert the vr6 gearbox from hydraulic to cable

then u put the converted gearbox into the ibiza

then all vr6 wiring plugs straight into the ibiza fusebox using the vr6 ECU,

i have someone who is willing to put the engine in and convert the vr6 gearbox and fit it for me, hes pretty sure hell be able to wire it up and strictly dubs (vw specialist) have said that if we have any problems they can wire the engine up for a couple of hours labour, or even tlk us through it,

im now on the hunt for a vr6 donour car or just everything i need o if u dnt buy it off ur friend can you please give me his contact details?

what the point? It will handle like a pig with all that weight at the front, my advise is to tune the standard engine.

mine handles very well, but i have uprated arb's,polybushes and vr6 uprated springs on coilovers

good to hear mate, but a 1.8 turbo would handle better with this setup due to the weight distribution being improved. I am impressed though mate you shoe horned the vr6 in, it will be a pig to do the cam chains at 90k though

i did my chains whilst the engine was out along with 268 cams and a lightened and balanced flywheel

and yes i do agree that it would handle alot better with a 1.8 turbo but i suppose its horses for courses and all that

i think wot raddo-dave has done is great and it wot true v-dubbing is about, i love the idea of building a car that cannot be bought standard, especially that kills cupra's off the line,

i am looking for a vr6 donour car and soon as i have found one we are going to start the work,

doing all the engine/gearbox fitting ourselves at my friends garage and getting strictly dubs(vdub specialist near me) to do all the wiring, as they sound pretty confident they can do it in a couple of hours ,

plus they say they can supercharge it so that will be the eventual plan,
but will buy another car (or use my n reg fiesta) to get about in day to day,

i will have to get ur phone number raddo-dave and maybe you could have a chat to my friend who is the mechanic doing most of the work,
