Hi,

any recommendations on cleaning up the brake discs/calipers? They seem to be rusted over on the ibiza i just bought as it has been standing for a bit. Also, there is some sort of sheild infront of the disc that is all distorted and rusted.. can i get rid of that?

Thanks

Get your self a wire brush and give them a good scrub then paint them to keep them rust free.I have seen some people paint the tops of the discs to keep them looking new.

As above, though I tend to use a fine wire wool to get the surface to a very matte/keyed finnish before painting. As for the paint its self Folia tec caliper paint is the best you can buy imo, but it's easier to get a good finish with the spray can stuff.

If the discs are very badly rusted it may well be worth taking the discs off the car and getting a machine shop to skim them down to clean metal.

Thanks... what about that ugly (heat?) shield? Can i get rid of that?
