I see the housing is held on by 2 bolts and there's a hose on the end but it looks like there would be something in the way if I were to go for removing the two bolts?

Is this the only way to get it off?

Thanks

1.9 130pd btw. :)

Ok, piece of piss.

Socket
Socket extension bar
10mm socket

Undo the top and bottom bolts being carful not to drop them into the engine tray. Let half the coolant run down the street, turn the thermostat 90 degrees anti-clockwise and it pops out.

Housing is attached to a rad hose but I didn't bother undoing it.

Stuck the thermostat in a jug of boiling water and it done sweet f.a so this might be the reason the car isn't heating up over 50 degrees for the first 10 minutes of driving.

Refitting is the reversal of removal. :)

Don't forget to top it back up.

Hi Mate,

Any pointers as to where the thermostat is located?

Do you need to remove the black engine cover to get access to it. Mines a 2001 110 TDI

Thanks

Mine didn't come with an engine cover but it's just to the right of the alternator. You'll see a black housing secured with two bolts and a hose coming off. It's in there.

Just a pain if you drop the bolt lol

Thanks Mate. I'll give it a go.
