Which issues out of interest?

climbing revs, car just dying for no reason, misfires, erratic idle, running on 3 cylinders and thats just to name a few.

running costs on a evo 10 is a little better but the engine in them are not as tunable and do seem to let go easy. i prefer evo 9 myself a little bit more hardcore than a 10.

Im considering a evo 8 to strip out and want to bump power to 450-500hp. I would like it to be reliable to do about 5000 miles a year. Would there be anything I need to be aware of when running at that power level? Like would it be silly expensive to maintain and run?

if you buy a evo 8 make sure it is the MR version (differant turbo, cams, bodyshell), 450-500bhp is quiet easy to get upto, parts you would require would go along these lines,
new ecu
new turbo kit
exhaust+decat
fuel pump

thats a small list but a expensive one, these parts alone would cost around £5000-£10000 depending on what quality parts you buy.
there are many tuners that say 450-500bhp is gettable with a reflash on standard ecu and setup on a rolling road but most of the figures on the rollers are wrong because when they are on the rollers they run more boost to get higher figures then turn them back down when it goes back on the road. if you are thinking about doing a evo 8 i can give you a number for the guy who tunes my car and he is very reliable and knows what he its doing let me know if you want it.

cheers

you'll never get insured on that mate, ive been through the exact stage your going through and looked into an evo but found it hard to even get a qoute at 22 never mind a 500bhp one, no chance unless you wanna pay £5k on insurance alone.

I forgot about the insurance thing. Havent checked with the specialist yet, but on confused the cheapest insurers wanted 3 grand to insure me on a evo x 360. Cupra quote was 1300, which is less than half what im paying now.

Loads of more expensive cars and some faster were less than the evo :(

You must have a Monday morning or Friday afternoon engine as mine has had none of this (touch wood). Did you ever get any suggestions on the flat spot out of interest?

The Cupra will still be a decent car at stage 1. If you go to stage 2+ then you'd most likely realise you need other mods to support the power, like suspension etc. Then it could end up being almost as expensive as the Evo:blink:

I have never had problems with my 2.0t, not owned it long but reading around i reckon it is stronger than the 1.8t. I had loads of problems with mine and if you go into the mk3 section nearly every thread is about maf's, coilpacks and n75's lol.

I have just had revo stage one and i am planning on gradually ending up at stage 2+, My next mod is going to be a milltek turbo back.

Mate could you post some pics of your evo in the pictures section? Always had a thing for evos, If the insurance wasn't idea i would of had a white evo 9 instead of the k1. Totally chuffed with the k1 though

Yeah I reckon so aswell lol.

Also either my slave or master cylinder is gone. CupraK1 has the same with the slave or master cylinder problem, and the erratic idle.

revo say its the valves. According to them cars 08 onwards have weaker valve springs, but yours is a 57 isnt it?

I assume Seat will only replace the exhaust valves if you have a fault code logged and they agree the valves are to blame? I wonder if they will still replace them under warranty with your modifications?

Nope - Mine is 07 and the engine number is a very low (early) one as is the S3 with the same issue (early 07 with low (early) engine number.

thought that was the case as you are one of the orginal mk2 cupra lads. No doubt revo will now say that your valves n springs must be worn

Will get my valve springs replaced anyhow n see what happens.

Have you had a quote to get this done?
