Hi Guys, what is the top speed anyones had from a 2.0 8v engine? Mines running very strong low down but once your into treble figures the grunt tails off rapidly.

I've been playing with it on an airfield and my old 16v used to get to 140 easily, the 8v is hovering around 120. That in itself isnt too bad, but then i got 110 in the 1.4!!

Am i expecting a bit much from a 12 year old car maybe?

Cheers

On the way back from Germany last year (the Int. Seat meet/Nurburgring etc) my car was three up, camping gear in the back three bags of clothes and upwards of 300 bottles of beer in the boot and we were 'cruising' along the de-restricted autobahns at 130 on the clock at one stage.so god alone knows how accurate that reading is GPS wise, but I was more than shocked/happy with it!

What might cause a reduction in top end then? I didnt have miles to let it go so it may have got more, just didnt like that it was so close to the 1.4!

Would an airflow sensor contribute to this?

I was getting about 125 on ths speedo on the runway at Marham and there wasn't much more to come. So I'd reckon about 120 in real money. Ultimately it is the gearing that governs the top speed, unless you remove your rev limiter.

It was no where near the limiter, just tailed off when i went into fifth.

I think i'll take another shot at it and try and take more speed onto the runway with me. Part of the sccop for the air feed has broken behind the bumper so maybe i need to look at getting that fixed and more air into it?

Don't know about the gearing, assume its standard as I'm the second owner and the last was a lady in her fifties who only did 6000 miles a year running round town. Probably the first time its seen 3 figure speeds!

Cheers Guys!

About £60 for a pattern one i think, but there are other sensors that can knock off power, like air temperature water temperature etc.
