Hi Guys,

Now this might sound like a daft question, but what do you do if you've not got a spare set of wheels and no where to stand you car whilst your wheels are being refurbed? Want to get them done either satin or gloss black.

The only people localish to Leicester and a reasonable price that I can find take 3-5 days to carry out the work and have no loan wheels to lend, so I'm a little stumped!

Any advice is appreciated

Cheers

I had seen these guys and had an initial email quote of £329 for all 4 wheels, and then a second quote, again via email with no prompting of £288. This seems expensive when these guys www.speedwells.co.uk will do the same for £188 all in and I can't find a bad word said about them.

And if I wanted it doing it really cheap these guys http://www.citypowdercoaters.co.uk do it for £30 a wheel all in, seems a little to cheap though!

powder coaters seem to be doing a £20 deal but is just a basic dip and coating in basic colours it seems

why not offset what you save on 4 axle stands - job jobbed then :):)

have heard good things about city powder coat this is there work

Thats what I wanted to do but don't fancy doing it on my drive as it pretty steep!

There's been a couple of people using city powder coaters, they seem fairly decent. The actual cost of powder coating is not huge, from a time and materials point of view I would expect more of a £30 per wheel price rather than a small fortune per wheel. A litre of paint and a big cooker for an hour? How does that equal £300 odd quid?

Yes I know i'm oversimplifying things, and most of that cost is the prep work needed, but some places do seem to take the p...

If I can find somewhere to stand it for a few days, really don't think I'd trust it on our drive, I might go for city powder coaters, those pictures yin posted do look good and £120 is pretty good!

Perhaps an accomodating friend? Or relative? Or even workplace, if it's secure? When my Nova blew it's head, I managed to limp to work and had the car there for a few days. I mentioned it to the facilities manager and she was happy to have it there until I could get it removed.

Yep thats what I'm going to be trying today! Hoping I'll be able to borrow some axel stands as well, save shelling out for them as well

Cheers fellas

I have seen that, pretty poor service but looks to be a one off! Am I right in saying I've got no chance of getting a set of steel wheels on whilst it done?

Cheeky I know but anyone localish fancy lending me a spare set if you've got one!!

a mate had his done at city powder look mint imao pics on post 96 here http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=223486&page=5

Look really good, just got to sort out either raising the car or a loan set of wheels

powdered coating is what you need :) once its finished in the oven its more or less ready alot quicker than waiting for the paint to dry

Thats true but it still seems to take most more than a day, hence my dilemma

i live in leicester and just had my fr wheels gloss black by perfection alloys. They do mobile service or they have a unit in whetstone.
I paid 50 plus vat per wheel.
Got to say though the job was spot on and the service is top notch.

They do have courtesty cars ..

Worth a call to them.

I can see where the OPis coming from with wanting to borrow some wheels so as not to need toleave his car at the wheel shop.

I have dropped my car off today to get the wheels done. I was very worried about leaving the car all day at some strange place and my car getting damaged by some scroat bashing their door against it.

I really hope my worrys were unfounded, When I dropped the car off the guy went round it with a sheet and attempted to find some damage of any kind, we both then signed the sheet to say that the car was damage free. they even checked the jacking points/under the floor so as to cover their arse about under car damage, then they told me that my car would be under a cover to keep any dust ect off of the paintwork.

They say that because my wheels will be black that they even use black ballancing weights :D

We talked about the various centre cap options etc.

In all I am quite impressed with the service so far, All being well I will have 4 nice gloss black wheels at about 17:00 today.
