looks like i will need to find out some old head unit keys and pull the bugger out

Chop two strips out of an old credit card or similar - that works as well as the proper tools.

And make sure you have the radio code BEFORE you pull it out.

Can you fit a sub to the factory headunit? Also does it have an inbuilt clip or can one be added?

If you look at the plug diagram for the head unit - some of the pins in plug C1 are line out.

In theory you could link an active sub or an amp and sub to the rear line outs as long as the sub has its own set up controls (you wont be able to control anything but volume on the head unit)

What do you mean by an inbuilt clip ?

A clip is designed to stop the distortion and stops it going over a specific bass/volume.

Cheers Deano, you coming to the next Preston meet?

Duno not heard out, mines an untouched 1.2 chill mate i think im guna fit in less haha

so the lead that the ebay link is related to, is that the correct lead aka will it work as im going to order one?

Just check the back of your head unit has the same sockets as the diagram in the thread link.

If yes - then it is the correct cable.

ok i have recived said cable plugged it in only to find it does not work when i touch the tape button the lcd screen says changer for a few seconds and then reverts back to playing the radio. im guessing that i have to trick it in to thinking that theres a changer, how do i do this?

hey teeth2k, I tried the exact same thing you have been trying and also have the same tape option on the alana system. I've had no success even showing it to a couple friends. Decided to just stop dithering with other options and ordered a new headunit that controls my ipod!

From reading around the forum it doesnt seem possible unless you have a newer alana unit such as the one with the cd6 option or mp3 cd player. although I might be mistaken! honestly think its easier to just chuck a new headunit in there, will improve sound quality aswell! its very simple changing the HU, i've done it in a mk2 ibiza, ford ka and already had a swing at it in the mk4 with a friends spare system while I wait for the one ive ordered to come. Installing the wire to the alana also brings the drama of having to dremel a hole for somewhere to feed it through to the front!

Up to you though mate, just trying to save you the time i wasted buying wires and pulling out the HU and refitting it everyday other day
