I have been down to my local dealer and asked for some details on the new cupra R and when the demo will be arriving he said late july early august so thats great.

I put my name down for a test drive as soon as it arrives so that wll be fun im sure. but i want to know what you MK2 owners think of the new (R) will it live upto the badge or will it be on par with the K1's ?. I love the new styling of the cupra R the exhausts making the rear interesting to look at and the sharper looking front end,I have got a stage 2 Mk1 cupra R at the moment loving it but looking to change in the next few months if i can find something worth while if not then im sticking as it ticks all the boxs for me so far.

The other choice is was looking at was the Mk2 focus RS but i can't help loving the look of the Leon and 5dr is a bonus for me having a little baby.

Anyway i have not found a lot of info on the leon cupra R yet so please help me ;)

thanks
J

now then, wel obviously its quicker than the k1 and imho looks better. I dont think the front end looks as mean as the normal cupra but back end looks miles better. I think it should come with skirts on though you cant beat them. Power wise i bet itl feel quick but reckon 280 hp would ov been about right for the r

I love the looks of it i think the first mod would be some H&R springs just to get that 40mm drop and thne after a few Kmiles a remap! and i think it will be an awesome car.

Thanks for comments so far

why do you say it will be quicker than the K1?
same engine , only subtle mods , still qouted 6.4 to 60

i think you will find its exactly the same performance wise
and its well overpriced imho , better cars out there for the money , it could have been the showpiece but its not
search this same question had about 20 pages iirc last time someone asked.

6.2 rob so it is quicker. I agree though overpriced thats why i rekon around 280 6 secs would have been better and skirts. K1 like the RS is a bit too in your face imho but each to their own like

standard cupra 240 ps think thats bhp 0 to 62 6.4 top mph 153
curpa r 265 ps 0 to 62 6.2 top mph 155
taken from seats technical specifications

Last weekend there was one at the Scottish National Meet. I went up the 1/4 mile in it :D

Cracking car, but overpriced considering its not all that better than a cupra.

I was the driver ;). Did a good lot of 1/4 mile blasts in it. It is a lot nicer inside than my pre facelift Cupra, but then every facelift Leon is. The R has shiny plastic on the back of the front seats, leather and black roof lining.

I agree about it being over priced though. As nice as the leather interior is, it should have been an option to keep the list price down.

My money would go on a normal Cupra to be honest. It does everything the R does for much less coin, and the 1/4 mile times were all but identical to the time my standard Cupra did at Crail 3 years previously - in fact my Cupra was slightly quicker. If you are that fussed about looks, buy the diffuser and bootlid spoiler and a Milltek twin exit exhaust.

By the way, a K1 is nothing special - its just a Leon Cupra, with an Aero kit ;)

Aye the racing driver there :p

LOl@ k1 :cartman:

I think SEAT have missed the boat with the 'R' and it could or should have been a whole lot more. is it really worth that much more than a normal cupra, maybe it will hold it's money well though!

To be fair, the R had 3/4 tank of petrol, and mine never did. I would expect the R to be a little quicker with the extra power, but then again, it has bigger heavier wheels, and probably weighs more with the leather trim etc.

At the end of the day, the major components are shared with the Cupra, and when mapped, there will be nothing between them, especially if you fit the R intercooler to the Cupra ;)

Has anyone had chance to proper study the engine components?

I mean, might it that when it finally arrives and someone get to really take it apart they find it has all sorts of extra bits like a bigger intercooler, bigger injectors etc etc?

Get the focus, tuning packages are appearing for it which will make it seriously quick. Or just go for standard cupra and remap, more power, much less dough. The cupra R is unfortunately little more than a gimmick.
