lots of replys and some good comments in this tread! well i went out for a test drive in the Megane RS250 today as they happen to have one in and first off it looks great in the flesh pictures do not do it justice at all its a very nice looking machine, Inside it felt like a quality product, so i had high hopes for the drive out in it!...Well first off i was pleased with the solid feel from the steering and it felt nice to drive, but due to traffic it was a good 10mins before i even got to open it up and when i did this was coming off a slip road, second gear i put my foot down and i was shocked at how it had no "pull" it was just straight upto 6k odd and went for 3rd foot down still no pull from the turbo it was very flat did not feel very powerfull ? i was expecting a lot more to be honest but i got it to some b roads and it did hold the road well but the power was just flat in honest opinion it was missing something the mk1 LCR im driving would out run this in both areas,im aware its got a lot going for it but im not sure i would part with my money...

Its themk2 RS focus next for me to drive then the mk2 LCR if non do it for me then il be keeping the mk1 R! and i shall keep my eye out for somthing special as i expect to feel something special from a 20-25k hot hatch!

I am willing to bet your MK1 LCR is mapped in which case it will feel quicker than that Megane, but in reality, it probably wont be any quicker.

Like the MK2 Leon Cupra, Standard Meganes appear to be making claimed bhp figures and approaching up to 10% over standard figures on various r/r's.

Map any of the new generation 2.0T engines (VAG Renault and no doubt the new Vauxhall engine) to see 300bhp, and wave bye bye to Stage 2 MK1 LCR's as they fall out of view from the rear view mirror.

Yes im stage 2 but i didn't want to compare them it was just my first thoughts was wow how it just did not feel that good through the gears, but it would come alive with a remap and a few other bits for sure just it would be nice to be impressed from the start! i have not binned the idea of it as its still a great hatch but i didn't feel like i wanted to snap it up and i really would need that feeling at that end of my budget.

But on the other side of things i looked at the cupra R on the seat website when i got home and feel it looks dated compared to the megane and kind of put me off a bit! so im very much still interested in the meg iv been on the megansport forum and got some good info just going to keep my options open no rush,

Saw an orange Cupra R parked on someones driveway today, 10 plate, in a road on the outskirts of Solihull....first one I've seen, and although it was in Wolves colours(!!!) it looked absolutely awesome....anyones on here????

Thought the Cupra R was not available in Lumina Orange and is a discontiuned colour for all 2011MY cars which the Cupra R falls into

Jezyg...dont know mate, but it was definitely a Cupra R....it had the twin centre exhausts, and little diffuser thing...there was also a black pre facelift Leon FR on the driveway as well.......

Oh right........I had never seen a Leon like it, except in photos obviously, and it did have a nice big 'R' badge on the back.........also as there was a pre-FL Leon FR next to it on the drive, so suppose it could be a demonstrator being driven by some lucky Seat dealer.........

the renault map would have been linear , did it have the renault sport monitor?
if it did you probably didnt use the sport extreme setting which makes it feel like a mapped cap throttle response and boost settings set to aggresive would have made a massive difference, dont think its available on non sport monitor cars iirc?
perhaps ask the dealer what setting it was on maybe economy?

it was as quick as a mk2 rs focus so will be interesting once you have driven this as well.

Rob-i have read about the "extreame mode" it was not on any setting and it was fitted with SATNAV the monitor cant be added if you take the Nav option.it might have been more interesting in that mode but il soon hopfully have a drive in the RS Ford.

After a lot of thought and reading people's comments i am also going to have a go in a Mk2 cupra/k1 see if that is a cheaper option and then some extras will be added..

Thanks

everytime a see a mk2 RS i just want one , they look the danglies , aggressive and would give you that moment when you keep looking out of your bedroom window to look at it.

Will say it again for the hard of hearing
MEGANE RS250
best all round car for the money and equipment and the tuning will be on par with the stage 2+ leons soon

A capable car it most definately is and RS tuning are seeing close to 300bhp with their software. BUT whether they will make another 60bhp with added bolt ons I very much doubt. More importantly, would I want to take the French engine to that power....?

I read that thread Ben. Is that on a new Megane or an older one?

New Megane mate.
but i dont think you will need the stage 2+ power in the megane , its lighter than the cupra , faster in standard from peoples 0-60 times , people getting 5.8 - 5.9 som imagine a 300 bhp would see low 5's , plenty enough for the road and the chasis is very capable of taking the extra power , LSD standard in cup form , brembos standard , ticks the boxes for me , only down side its french
but bear in mind SEAT has 4 years to turn the brand around or vw are going to drop them , would i want to be stuck with a £25k + cupra r when seat walk away and it gets bought say for instance by lada? the bottom will fall out of the used car prices and all seats will be worth peanuts , good for second hand buys but poor for current owners and future owners.
There are better cars out there for the money SEAT want for theirs and also until people have really dealt with their so called after sales and customer care then you have no idea how poor their overall product really is !

Renault megane looks absolutely fantastic, not so keen on the ford focus (is it the ST) 5 door, 3 door looks ok but as I have disabled members of my family I need a 5 door car so the Leon cupra R gets my vote

Did not have best customer service with Renault, we had a Clio a few years back. Broke down 14 times in 12 months. Never even started after they fixed one of the faults when we tried to collect it from the service department.
To top it off, they stamped the service book and never serviced it :ban: 35k miles later we found this out. They took the car back for a engine rebuild but would not give us our money back. Got shot within a week of getting it back… Would NEVER buy anything French again….

I’d feel the same given the experiences you’ve had with Seat…..Hopefully you’ll have better luck with Renault :) and perhaps I’ve got the crap service from Seat to come :(

Think every manufacture has horror stories, it’s just crap that the consumer normally bares the brunt of it.

I tried to get my deposit back earlier in the year, but no joy, so I’m just going to enjoy it when it arrives...A 5 door hatch suits my needs.
