Driving to work this morning in my Leon mk2 FR TDI, I decided to accelerate hard to overtake. Just then I noticed that the turbo started whining loudly under load and a drop in power. There was no smoke and no lights on dash. Could this be a popped pipe? It's still like has the issue.

See you've had a good start to the day as well :( from my experience doesnt sound like a popped pipe wouldnt be any whinning noise's just no boost. Sounds like a goosed turbo mate but may be wrong.

Update, turbo has gone and having a new one fitted by Seat for the bargain price of £1750.22 - don't forget the 22p. 4months out of warrenty and 39k miles on the clock.

No chance of a goodwill contribution from Seat as of independent service.

Gutted, thank the lord for credit cards.

have you looked around for another garage that specialises in VAG cars? could well be a lot cheaper seeing as the car is outside of warrany...

sorry to hear man!

Yea, £1200 fitted but a recon turbo. Am I mad paying Seat to do it? Rather it done properly and while paying that much, I'd rather a brand new one anyway.

Then I am mad then. Think I just want Seat to do it as its a pretty important job and dont really have anyone else to trust. The Ind VW specialist I first took it to didnt even investigate the police siren sounding turbo like I asked them too, they just dismantled inlet manifold and put it together as the variable intake flap was not working or something....and charged me £132 and ignored the wailing turbo.

Ill take this on the chin as Ive instructed them to do the work now.

It's all done now. I've the kept the old part so maybe get it recon'd and sell on? Advice? Apart from the obvious "should of done that in the first place".
