Hi, got my car lowered a few weeks ago and since then i've had a couple of problems.:help:

1. when turning right on almost full lock theres a clunking noise from the front drivers side, had a look but cant figure out what it is? pretty sure its not droplink though. always seems to occur at the same point of travel on the wheel but cant see whats knocking???

2. a couple of times my ESP and ABS warning lights have came on, however they go off when i restart the ignition. Also, a couple of times the speedo has jumped about randomly  These problems only occured for the 1st week or 2 and have now stopped although the speedo still appears to be a bit slow to react? could this be a dirty sensor or perhaps the connection has been loosened during the coilover fitment?

cheers guys

I'll say it politely before someone bits your head off - you should've searched as this has been covered loads of times (i personally think the search button is as much help as a chocolate tea pot).

The clunking noise will most probably be your anti roll bar. Did you put shorter drop links on?

The speedo won't be related to lowering i wouldn't have thought. Maybe check your fuses? If not I'd have thought it could maybe be the cluster itself. I don't know tbh. Car looks sweet in your avatar. Any pics? :D

thanks, i did have a quick search and wasnt really sure if it related to my problem.

i had a look when on full lock (to the right) and it didnt look like the droplink was knocking. i did get short droplinks but they sent me the wrong ones. the mechanic (a vw specialist) has told me i dont need them? im not mechanically minded so i'm probably wrong! would i not get the same problem on the passenger side when on full lock to the left too if it was the droplink?

i'll prob get it back to the garage as soon as i can but just though i'd see if someone cld give me an idea what it is before i go back.

sorry to be pedantic but your editing reason... grammAr ;)

what coilovers you get?

He got KW V1's.

I get the same knocking noice on full lock and it the ARB hitting your driveshaft... short answer you do need shorter drop links or........ screw the suspension up a bit more.

The second problem isn't to do with the suspension, but like you say it something that’s been knocked or dislodged. I forgot to plug my MAF wiring back in when I fitted my coilovers!!!.

Sorry to drag up an old thread lads but just wondering if this was sorted? I got the same problems with My TA Technix which I fitted along with shorter droplinks. Some have suggested tracking, some have said ARB? Any idea's? Would be hugely appreciated! :D

old threads are good it means the search bar is being used ;).
id say check your driveshaft for any signs of the drop link haveing touched the shaft.
also give a visual check around that area with the wheel on the lock that you hear the knocking on.

This is old, i don't even have the cupra anymore!

As opposed to some of the replies above, my problem was not the droplinks, it was actually the wheel hitting off the arch lining. Problem was easily resolved by cutting a small piece of the arch lining out.

For the record also i never needed shorter droplinks as advised by almost everyone - perhaps its a problem with diesel cupra's as i believe they engines are heavier but certainly my 1.8T with KWV1's (wound all the way down at the back and front wound down until level) did not need the shorter drop links.

hope this helps.

how did you find your kw v1s? im waiting for mine to be delivered and there isnt many who have used them on the mk4 cupra and left feedback about them on the forum.

I was very impressed with them. The only gripe i had was that even when wound down all the way at the back, it still wanted a little more drop but i believe that's a common issue with most coilovers on the mk4. The improvement in handling was well worth the money and despite the minor gripe about the rear, it looked fantastic lowered. If you haven't got spacers for the rear wheels i would suggest saving for them as they get a little bit lost in the arch when you drop it. Enjoy!

So how did you sort the problem sorry?

im not to bothered about a massive drop im just sick of the crashy standard cupra suspension, ive already got 20mm rear spacers fitted.

in that case your sorted. drop them all the way at the back and wind the fronts down to match and you'll have a very good set up, without any rubbing issues etc
