Whenever i rag it on a cold start, in 2nd gear at around 4000 revs, it's as if the turbo cuts out completely and the engine light comes on, on the dash! Third gear is the same!

When the engine warms up it's fine!

But still is this normal?

Are you being serious....ragging the car when the engine is stone cold :-o I imagine its some sort of protection mode in the engine management system to prevent the engine/turbo self destructing because of oil starvation. Haven't you heard of driving the car with some restraint until the oil is up to temperature and then driving it hard. I doubt it will be fine even when its warmed up if you carry on driving it like that.

You're just asking for trouble ragging your car from cold. When your engine goes bang, maybe you'll think about looking after your car a bit better :ban:

Your car is trying to stop you from being a twat, seems to be almost be managing too

would you jump out of bed and run a 100 meter sprint !!??

lol 2nd that,

Seriously though, your asking for trouble giving it full beans on a cold start, especially when it's really cold like the temp has been for the past few weeks.

No respect  I bet your mum and dad bought the car for you eh?

Cheeky ****er!!!!! No they didnt!!! I actually work for my stuff!

Well at least now i know! You guys have gotta realise not everyone knows everything, well now i know!! Thats the point of these forums you know, is to learn stuff and contribute stuff you do know about your seat!

And to everyone saying i dont look after my car, she's looked after better than most of yours i bet!

So next time cut me some slack and don't go at me, all guns blazing!

the Honda Vtecs have a safety system where the vtec wont energise (via the oil pressure solenoid) until the temp is above 60 deg, so preventing you from raggin it from cold.

also the B7 RS4 i drove of my friends knocks the redline down by 1000rpm until its over 70-odd deg from memory...

certainly with the petrol cars ive had in the past ive waited until the temp gauge is at normal position before lifting the revs above 3k rpm

obviously 3k rpm in a tdi is exploiting most of its power so i generally keep the tdi's a little lower, say 2000-2500rpm but im not as concerned with the tdi.

Us guys dont have to realise anything. we already know ;)
If your cars better looked after than mine (it clearly isnt) then maybe you`d prefer not to hear my advice or anyones elses.

We are all here to learn so please drop the attitude.
You might find reading the cars manual will help :)

At this time of year give it 5mins after the coolant has reached normal operating temps, and your oil should be working well.

probs one of the most cringing posts i've ever read... i'd hate to be the unsuspecting person that owns your car after you.

Place your bets for the OP's next thread title.

1/ why does my engine use so much oil?

2/ why does my engine sound like a bag of spanners when it's cold?

3/ why does my engine tick over so rough?

I know the new Ibiza Cupra won't redline in 'Sport' mode until it's upto temp so I'd say it's a safety feature, although as said, isn't it common knowledge? Your car has been sat there, all engine components have been stood for atleast 8 hours while you've slept?
If someone woke you up at 5am when it was -10 last week and asked you to run as fast as you can, you couldn't until your body gained some temperature? You were trying to ask oil, which was probably thicker then your porridge, to move around the engine as quick as your blood does, not gonna happen mate :)
We're all just trying to warn you about the adverse effects it will have in the long run!

Danny.

your car won't last long if drive it like that mate i don't even move my car for at least 15 mins from cold start, won't just be your engine and turbo to worry about gearnox aswell , be careful mate sounds like you got a nice car should keep it nice
