I thought you meant as in each little copper wire inside the brown sleeve lol :) Did you replace the whole lot or just the affected wire?
 
i managed to cut a section of wire out of a wrecked polo with the same engine in. i traced the section of wire back from the block that plugs in to the coil all the way to where it goes into the bulkhead and chopped it there. did it this way because i didnt want to bodge the plug/block that goes on the side of the coil pack.
 
All sorted, the earth cable which comes from the negative terminal on the battery had snapped off the gearbox, I bolted it to somewhere else and the car started first time, after putting insulation tape over the old damaged insulation (as the wire and plug wern't damaged at all)

yeah is perfect into reverse :)

i think i might have bent my selector a bit... when my box went i got it suck in reverse so i sat in the back seat and pulled with both hands as hard as possible to get it out and it made a big clunk when it did finaly come out and now its really stiff to go in reverse every other gear is great though? :shrug:
