Hi
I want to change all the speakers in my Leon and power all of them from amp.
I want to put a sub in the boot but I dont want to lose a lot of space in here. Any ideas how and where to install the sub?
I am thinking about building a sub box.
Or maybe two 6x9 on the shelf ??
What do you think ?
Any pics or links would be nice :)

Do not purchase 6x9s, waste of time. If you want to keep the loss of space to a minimum either build it into the spare wheel well or purchase something such as the pioneer wx77a.

I have a 12" sub and box in my Leon and there is still plenty room as it sits nice and flush against the back seat. Don't get 6x9's as they are so last century but you could just upgrade all your standard speakers with similar sized more powerful units and run them of an amp.

I have Fusion component system which IMO is very good and a FLI coaxial for the back. Some time ago I have bought a Infinity Cappa 6x9 thats why i thought about putting them on the shelf . Why are you saying that 6x9 are crap? I had them in couple of cars and I like the sound they made- especially when they are amped.

My mates audi a3 quattro turbo singin and dancing beast had this little cylinder sub in the side by the wheel arch. It wasn't bad and took up no space at all. No idea what it was or called though.

I used to have Audi A6 2.5 tdi quattro with BOSE sound system and I had the same small sub like your mate in A3 I think . It sounded really good but It wasnt too powerfull if you know what I mean .

A speaker is designed to be a perfect circle, not an oval. If they were so good don't you think that companies that do soundstaging for gigs would all be using them. The fact is they don't, and also all audio comes from infront of you not from behind, you don't go to a gig and stand with your back to the stage do you? Concentrate on fitting a good set of components up front, amp them to get the best out of them then look at at a good quality sub that doesn't require a lot of volume to produce a good quality sound so you can build your box as small as possible then. 6x9s are just a marketing ploy.

@gdjohnyYeh I was pretty impressed with it and like you say it wasn't over the top. I have a cheapo 2x12 and amp at the mo but I tend to keep it fairly low and I also have a lot of space but I intend to go with a good single in the future and build it into the side of the boot.

@ whoever I think the 6x9's can be ok amped if you dont have a sub but they're not perfect. I really prefer the sound I have now without any 6x9's.

i quited liked the sound coming from my 6"9" when i had a Astra but a Leon i think are to classy for them!!! better off upgrading all speakers then moving on to a sub if you still dont have the desired noise

I never said they were crap but rather they are not something you see very often now and don't look all that great in a parcel shelf. You can get just as good a sound replacing your OEM units with similar sized upgrades. I will also say that I did use to have a set of Kappa Infinity 6x9 many moons ago and they were immense for sound quality and base. I used to have a custom mirrored mdf shelf in my Mk1 Golf which has a 12" Rockford Fosgate in the middle and Kappa Infinity's either side of it. I'm sure my hearing still suffers from it lol!!

@Sunnibass The Base speaker in the spare wheel space in my car is not a good idea. I do a lot of mechanic work on my mates cars so very often I have tools in my boot etc etc I will go with a custom install on one of the side panels in the boot.
6x9 will have to stay on the shelf at home. You guys were right - The car is to Classy to put them in LEON :)
Thanks for all your input :)
