The service history with my Leon suggests that the timing belt was changed in 2009 and the water pump in 2007 (along with an earlier timing belt change). Not sure why two belts, but there you go.

Now assumning this was done (only a piece of paper to say so) I should be ok (fingers crossed) for a couple more years yet, but being a rather pessimistic sort of person I have been thinking about getting it done sooner. Not because I want to spend the money, but at least I know that during my ownership it has been done and can feel confindent about the condition of it all.

A local specialist has given me a ball park figure of £400 for fitting the belt kit (with damper/tensioner/etc) and the water pump. He suggested that they tend to fit the plastic impellor pumps as they reduce engine damage in the event of a pump seizure and that from their experience the metal ones are not great quality.

My initial thoughts are that the price for the belt/pump sounds high (wife's Focus recently cost £210 without the pump) and I don't know what to think about the comments re the pump.

I had my timing belt/waterpump and thermostat all changed last October for £300.

But £400 is common I'm afraid. Just have to shop around, but make sure the place it goes is reputable and will do a good job. It's about your trust in them at the end of the day!

I only got mine done where I did because they we're recommended on here and I wasn't disappointed.

Mine is up for it's first change as the car is just 4 year old. Mileage is only 37K but they recommend it every 4years. It's been a bit since a timing belt for me as i've had Jap cars and they use chains.

Quote was £340 from my local Seat Dealer.

I am currently getting quotes to get mine done. One dealer has quotes me £570 for Cambelt and Waterpump :wtf: I knew that was over the top, but thats a huge difference! I was planning on shopping around anyway, but I don't think I will be going to that dealer for anything!

Got my Cambelt and Water pump (metal impeller) changed 2 weeks ago. Cost me £299. My local Seat dealer quoted me £366 with plastic impeller water pump!

Is that a "standard" change? Will check with the garage before I get mine done to be certain. Had a quote for around £300 all-in earlier

Yeah seems to be, I can't imagine many main dealer's would be replacing water pumps with plastic impellered one's still. That would be poor!!
