Ye bad times had to have a chip done on mine 1 month old and 850 miles on the clock.
The roads around me are F*!$ED at the mo from all the snow and ice we had.

All that road tax we all pay it takes the pee

^^ Indeed it does! They fill the potholes will putty which soon becomes a pot hole again. Hate the roads in this country at the mo.

I have learnt my lesson good and proper. When you have a chip...get it done.

Went out to my car on my lunch about to pop to Halfords when my friend pointed out to me the chip had got bigger. I was a tad confused, thinking no it hasn't. Big fat crack from the passenger side edge, through the chip and out the other side.

After spending forever trying to get through to the right department with my insurance i finally got the answer i wanted, about who does the replacement. Just need a date now, feel like i don't wanna drive the car as i don't want it to further crack. Had the car a year in April and it does this to me. Boohoo

Think it was the coldness of this morning and the day suddenly heating up causing it to contract as it was fine this morning when i scraped the ice off the windscreen.

Anybody had previous car windscreens replaced by National Windscreen, are they ok?

Once more because im angry and upset :censored: and a slap to me for being silly!

dont worry, even though its cracked it will get bigger but the likelihood of it breaking completely is very small,

had mine done on the 1.6 SC a few weeks ago, national windscreens were very good, quick and could drive it again within the hour. Take it your with admiral then :D

Its all sorted now anyway, was very happy with National Windscreens. No problems. I'm with diamond, pratically the same lol.

if your lucky enough to work for Autoglass then you get the replacement for free....! :D wonder how i know that.....! good to hear of the good service some of you have received...not so much regarding the **** ones though! :D

I didn't think it was covered by warranty. If only i knew that before hand or even thought of it.

It's not normally covered by warranty. But they had mounted the screen to high in mine and when Autoglass turned up to do it they couldn't cut it out without damaging the roof paint to refused to do it. So it went to an approved body shop in case it needed paint and the screen got changed as the crack was down to stress as the glass had been touching the body.

Hi,

When you say stone chip I assume you mean a proper chip going through a layer of the glass? I have a couple of very small surface only chips, no more than 1mm across, that would be too small to have repaired (theres nothing for the glass filler to get a purchase on) I assume these are ok to leave?

Cheers

Ian

Hey,

Yeah i'd imagine so being that small its ok. Mine was nearly 1.5cm i'd say incl. the impact around the chip. Then it cracked from one side, through the chip and out the other side.

Otherwise pop to an autoglass or any other windscreen repair branch and ask.

Normally when they're that small they're just surface chips, like a stone chip that has got to primer but not the metalwork. Like char_baby says, your local windscreen repair company will be able to tell you for sure, but tbh unless it's bigger than a 5pence piece or clearly cracked underneath it's nothing to worry about.

I had a "chip" that was about the size of a pound coin on my last car (a wreaked BMW 318i) and they replaced the screen cos it was in zone A, but you could see the chip was all the way through. I guess it's all down to what the man at the MOT station says :)
