I have the same issue and unfortunately it is a respray remedy :( I didn't feel that I wanted to go down that line and bought a touch up kit from the dealership and just put a blob of the clearcote varnish over the top to stop it from getting worse. Thankfully mine is just a small patch.

Mines just a couple of small patches as well, how well does the touchup kit you bought work?
Pics?

I didn't use the paint, I only used the varnish as its quite thick. I will try and take a picture tomorrow as it has a bit of a sticker over it. It has worn down a little but, I just need to re-apply the varnish. Its not a miracle cure and its still obvious but, it stops it getting worse.

Ok, does it look as though theres a paint blob in the spot?

The only way to deal with it is a respray on the affected panel.

All I can say is don't even bother trying to repair/bodge or whatever, I've been there, spent hours doing it and it was a waste of time (eventually-less than a year after).

Basically its like an infection and it will spread out from the affected area. On a roof of a car I had a few years ago I spent hours cutting it back and re lacquered the affected area. It didn't look that bad for six months or so (I really did go to town on it), but then it continued its march across the panel.

For the sake of £150 for a panel, its just not worth it. Get it sprayed (assuming you're going to keep the car for a while).

2 cents worth (as you would say)

Well the area isnt that bad at the moment, its the nose of the bonnet and a couple on the roof of the car, but they get just a tiny bit worse each time I wash it. I honestly dont know how long im going to keep the car, ive just done a load of upgrades to it so I hope quite a while. The lacquer peel problem really bugs me and makes me have a feeling about my car that just isnt right. How much is a respray and would the paint match on a 10 year old red car properly?

You really need to talk to a decent sprayer. Paint fade occurs on virtually all colours although red is usually one of the worse. A decent sprayer will know what he's doing and do a half decent job decent the colour/age.

How he will go about I don't know, but part spraying a panel is common place and you wouldn't even notice it. A friend of mine repaired a dent in the leading edge of the Pug's bonnet and sprayed it. Whilst he as at it, he resprayed the front bumper too. It cost me £225, but that was using a proper spray booth (his own) and not just a garage/some chipsaway type tent. On that basis I reckon sub £200 (if you can get a friend of a friend situation).

The area will continue to get worse and worse, with the summer coming on it will also speed up the process (sorry). It ain't fun.

If you're planning on keeping it for more than the summer, then I would get it done as it'll only get worse and worse. As and when you do sell it, it'll also be marked down on it too so there's no reason (in the lung run) not to get it done.

As said at the start, speak to a sprayer (hopefully one that won't rip you off saying the whole lot needs to come off/complete panel spray etc.

Hopefully there are some sprayers on here reading this at some point.
