After a while of being what I would call a "rookie detailer" i'm wanting to take things more seriously. At the minute i've got a collection of mainly Autoglym products just because of their reputation and ease to get hold of with 3 for 2 offers in Halfords, but id like a complete list of what you "pro detailers" would reccomend to use, all products equiptment etc.

Snow Foam
Shampoo
Clay
Pre Wax Cleaner
Polish
Glaze
Sealant
Wax
Wheel Cleaner
Wheel Sealant
Tyre Dressing
Glass Cleaner
Fabric Cleaner
Metal Polish

Drying Towel
Buffing Cloth

Also can any one shed any light on what detailing sprays are used for apart from clay lube?

Anything ive missed off?
I know its a long list but over time im wanting to build up a good collection of products and im grateful for anyones input!

Jon, isn't Poorboys White Diamond mostly for lighter colours cars (and Black Hole for Darker?)

I know you are giving a general guide.

Also for wheels, I would suggest Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour.

It crystalises on the wheels, and makes a bonded protection layer.

here is a quote from Heavenly from edition38, his post on C5

15ml would suffice for a standard set of wheels.

Apply with a makeup pad and remove within a couple minutes with clean microfibre , throw the microfibre away after every wheel as it will crystalise. Poorboys wheels sealent is about 1% as effective as c5.

c1,c4 and c5 all crystalise like this so this is what is actually protecting your alloys , an almost unpenetrateable layer , poorboys etc and wax is not heat resistant and if you heat wax bearing in mind the braking system what happens?

my friends have raved about it, so might have to give it a try in the future :)

Hi Suj,

Yes White Diamond is generally for whiter colours but that doesnt mean you can apply it on darker colours with good affect. I apply it on my car to give a brighter look rather than a darker one.

C5 is very good!

Snow Foam - don't use it due to vinyl roof.
Shampoo - meguiars nxt generation/ dodo juice born to be mild
Clay - bilt hamber soft (highly recommend)
Pre Wax Cleaner - don't use.
Polish - menzerna, various cutting levels by what's needed.
Glaze - Don't use now but want to try poorboys White diamond.
Sealant - Mark V IP100 (highly recommend)
Wax - dodo juice supernatural (highly recommend)
Wheel Cleaner - autoglym wheel cleaner, want something else to try though.
Wheel Sealant - don't use just now but would like to get some.
Tyre Dressing - meguiars Endurance gel (highly recommend)
Glass Cleaner - autoglym glass polish (highly recommend)/ autoglym fast glass
Fabric Cleaner - autoglym interior shampoo
Metal Polish - t-cut
Drying Towel - dodo juice orange plush drying towel
Buffing Cloth - just cheap tesco microfibres

I'm happy with all the things I have but am still quite new to detailing so would like to hear what others say too. Would highly recommend the clay, sealant, wax, tyre gel and glass polish.
Apart from that just method I think eg. 2 bucket method, straight lines, orange peel washing, good wash mitt etc.

Hi Jon,

I see, tbh I have not used either, just going by what I read, I will be going for Black Hole for my Bora soon :)

Thanks for reply dude.

Wheel Cleaner - autoglym wheel cleaner, want something else to try though.
Wheel Sealant - don't use just now but would like to get some.

For wheel cleaner, most people suggest Bilberry Wheel Cleaner, my wheels are normally clean though, and I monthly/bi-monthly take each wheel off and clean properly)

For wheel sealant, read my post above about C5 Wheel Armour.

Depends how you are going to use the polish and what polish you use.

By machine with abbrasive compounds you will improve the finish on the paint surface (if it needs it). The glaze will add gloss via oils and fillers in the product and the sealant will lock that in better. Something like Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 is a very easy to use and effective product.

You can then lay the AG HD on top of that (2 layers at least an hour apart).

Will that be a decent procedure? Or is ther sumthing i can put on before the poorboys? Polish? And puttin on by hand

If your mate is going to detail the car get him to apply the Blackhole by machine, then seal by hand with the Jetseal 109, then wax.

All you need to do then is wash and top up the wax layer every few months.

There should be no need to keep reapplying the Blackhole and Jetseal more than every 6 months or so.
