I have done some searching and found that there are only a handful of people on here with a tuning box. On the Vauxhall forum they go mad for these boxes and they all say how good they are. One I am looking at from DTUK plugs into the common rail and also to the turbo boost pressure sensor, it claims 210ps and 443nm from a plug n play box. Is this too good to be true? clicky for box info

lol i just sold my vectra and i had a DTUK tuning box on that and tbh it took 2mins to fit and did take my 150bhp to around 185-190 however they are very agressive and take there toll on your DMF/clutch they can also put the car in limp mode if they are set to high.

So yes the figures are probebly accurate but at that setting it may put your car in limp mode , they dont stay like it and its quite normal for them to do that but if it does you need to turn it down a notch lol

i had mine on the highest setting without putting the car in limp this was setting 4 out of 8 so..... but id did cost me 50quid second hand which for the extra power was well worth it but i wudnt buy one new much better off with a remap IMO

hope that helps lol

DTUK are on this forum but I can't remember under what username. It was their own car that was knocking out 210bhp. Andrew from DTUK's wife was/is running the car as a daily driver/development hack.

their place is just down from where I live, to be honest never been a fan of a tuning box when you can spend a few more £ and get a proper tried and tested remap

I think these box things have come a long way since a few of us on here were messing about with them on early Ibiza TDIs 10+ years ago!
They are coming back into fashion again thanks to the encrypted ECUs on the latest generation of cars requiring the unit to come out of the car to be remapped, which reminds me of the remaps some of us were getting years ago where the ECU came out to have new chips soldered in.
Not many people are brave enough to have the ECU in their brand new car taken out and played with, especially if the thing is on a lease or similar. The tuning box can be taken out in minutes so there is no risk of a dealer seeing any mods to the vehicle.

Everytime I hear about tuning box merits I cant help but think its basicaly what the blufin does...

Encyrpted ecu's always get cracked anyway, just a case of waiting and or finding the right tuner. The latest TP10 ecus have already been cracked also.

But surely when a box just plugs into a turbo boost sensor and the injector rail it isnt changing all required parameters?

Get a remap :)

I think the tell on the tuning box is where it plugs into the loom.

If it effectively fudges the ECU settings for boost & fuel then it's got to be scaling it up by a certain %. It might work, but you won't know if the car is overboosting (dangerously) or underfuelling (or over fuelling)

What he said. ;) ^

I know Andrew at DTUK well and his fiancee Jen also. These boxes are superb, they're not the cheap resistors that everyone brands them with like off ebay for £5.....

They had a CR FR about 2 weeks after they were first released and ran a box on it, CRD-T i think....saw some fantastic results, went out in it as well and the difference is unreal.....

as mine is the PD engine there isn't a box available so had to opt for the remap. but i'd choose a box over a map every day of the week, purely as they yield better fuel economy as well as bhp & torque figures....95% of remaps won't give you that. So it's a no brainer, buy a box, and get 4-5mpg more than you are, and extra bhp, so in a year or 2, you'll have paid for the box with the money saved viaa fuel economy....No argument really.

There is a DTUK PD box. clicky

Disregarding the fact that a £350 box can either go onto your next car or go on ebay, where can I get a £350 remap for a CR170 derv in Southampton?

As I was quoting the PD box bit would suggest I have a map on a PD engine. Not having a CR engine, I've never looked at prices for mapping them and as I live nowhere near Southampton, I wouldn't know where you could get any performance mods near you.

Inc VAT? Indicative... Revo is 399+vat, so £500. So I'd wait to see if they do a 'summer' deal where it'd be nearer £300+vat, so £375

Depends on how long you're keeping it.

Plenty of mobile companies will do it for £350 though... probably less. They'll just be downloading their maps from the internet (but this is 'normal')
