should a stage 2 tdi hav a chance against a 220 coupe ?

my friend has a 220 coupe and i hav the tdi stage 2 but as i wasent confidant in the power its making i decided to test it against him a few times

ok so i set off got it in 3rd gear at 2.5k rpm i floor it to 4k and change gear.

as soon as my friend sees me floor it he steps on it and he flys past me and i just dont hav a chance at all :wtf:

i feel the cars only got a stage 1 on it even tho jbs say its a stage 2 its booked in on ther dyno on thursday

if it makes 230+ on jbs dyno i wont belive it and ill belive my dyno dynamics dyno results at 201 bhp and 320 torque and if that is the case u can get that from a standard stage one

sry to keep bringing this up just be nice to c other peoples comparisons

thx for reading

You should take a rover 220 turbo, the leon is more on a par with astra vxr, leon cupra in standard form with the stage 2 map, plus if you have the stage 2 dpf delete you should be changing at 4.5k as it makes most power between 4-4.5k revs, i think you have some form of issue, are you sure you do not have the MILD map? Is the rover 220 turbo heavily tweaked?

Is the 220 standard or has it be tweeked ? i thought some of those turbos gave good power ? it also helps that the 220 has a proper rev range :)

it has a FMIC and boost set to 14 psi so its like +4 psi other than that standard

and it rly is fast compared to mine the only way i can compare it is like siting in a metro and a skyline shooting past you and u just no ther isent anyway in hell u would hav a chance

A standard rover 220 boosts at 9 psi. THere is a boy in my home town who has a minter of a 220t rover boosting at 14 psi with an engine rebuild, cams, fmic etc. My bro in his 200bhp cossie fiesta st can keep with him upto silly speeds, i can take my bro's st. You have a problem

well i had the car bk to jbs as it was only on the dyno at 200 on dyno dynamics jbs checked my car over said ther wasent anything wrong with it

i proceeded to talk with james in reception and said if i had a uprated clutch and such would i hav a difrent map he said NO in teh back on my mind i was thinking well surely u would be abel to get a bit more or some torque atleast

i rly belive my car is on a stage 1 and i had it back for it checking and said it was ok so i had to book it in for a dyno with jbs to try and prove to them somthing is wrong

it has the milltek dpf delete full free flowing exhaust and made 201 bhp and 320 torque on dyno dynamics to me that sounds spot on for a stage one mape

my recipt i got from jbs also says phase 2 software

btw the car dosent blow any smoke at all well not much just a little hint at high rpm but to me that in itself is saying ther is more to be had

and as for it been a custom code i hardly see hwo they can call it custom wen its simply a generic map and i was neva asked how i would liek the power delivery or anything

do you hav to specificly ask for the stage 2 wild map ?

Yeh these days you have the option. I was one of the first to get the software 19 months ago, and i specifically asked for the car to be as aggresive as possible, to put it simply, it smokes like a bitch and with only 6k miles going from a stage 1 map at 202 from new to a dpf delete map straight away the clutch slipped on testing. I do think however that 240 is optimistic, i have had it RR'd at that, but 220-230 is realistic i would say, but your torque seems a bit low, it should be 340+ ft lbs

plus if you have the stage 2 dpf delete you should be changing at 4.5k as it makes most power between 4-4.5k

+1 if you change at 4.5k and catch the gear change just right there is no lag between gear changes. If you change at 4k then I find a delay before the power is back.

BIGG - do you have vag com, if so would you do a log in 4th gear of block 11 for requested boost against actual to compare to my results?

I will do mate, my vagcom is with a friends audi just now with some hesitation problems, so will probs get it back later this week, but i will do

and the only resson i rev it to 4k is i tryed goin round to the red line against the 220 and tbh dident help at all and to get from 4k to 4.5 was a snore fest seemed to loose power after 4k

i did hav a nice tuned hdi and i was with the car from standard and i felt the transformation from stage 1 to stage 2 and both times it felt liek a massive increse

but with this car well yer it felt faster but i expected more the only main difrence i felt wen i had the stage 2 was the increse in torque low down and the sound of exhaust that initself makes u think ur goin faster wen its making more noise

i rly hope it only makes 200 or 210 on jbs dyno as they should look into the problem for me ill even ask them to reflash my ecu to the latest stage 2 map just to make sure its on that only takes 5 mins tops

i just want the most from my car and if the clutch slips ill just get an uprated one

P.S i orderd a vag com so be intrested to compare results wen i lerned how to use it

I would take it to another dyno if you have the spare change and time...but yea by the sounds of things the map you have ain't stage2 or not up to scratch (typical...really).

Hope it gets sorted soon mate :)

i had it on a dyno dynamics just to see what power it was making as jbs dident dyno it here is my dyno sheet

file.php

and thx i hope i get it sorted 2 but like people are saying use the power all the way up2 4500rpm rather than 4k

mayb its my driving skill that sucks but the speed that 220 flys past me i dont think the extra 500rpm would make a hell of a difrence as i hav tryed to redline it against him and the same thing happend

any way ill update this thread on thursday after i been to jbs and let you all kno what has gone on

i feel i realy need to look into this as ther is goin to be other people that dont no anything bout cars and spend ther hard erned cash on an upgrade and they will feel happy with teh car but imo they arnt getin what they payed for

If it's anything like the rover coupe turbo I've seen near Preston I don't even think a Leon cupra will be able to keep up never mind a tdi!!! Dunno what the guy has done to it but it's a brutal bit of kit!

to be fair as we went out on the test ...track... a corsa vxr followed us looked like he had a FMIC fited so duno what power it was runing but my m8s 220 flew past me and then the corsa followed soon after

corsa dident get past the 220 tho so i think the rover is about 230-240 bhp and the cora ???

so in theory i think the dyno dynamics is spot on i also had my 306 hdi dynoed on the same rollers and my mapper said it would be around the 150bhp mark and it made 153 on those rollers so i kinda trust them

u would think tho if they are 220bhp and then a tdi at 220bhp but the tdi will prob hav 2x the amount of torque u would think that would giv the edge

if the corsa had a fmic it was probably fully loaded on standard turbo. there light little buggers and can see 240-260 bhp so your mates rover must be rather fettled with lol

yer im starting to think the same lol t16 turbo think thats the standard 220 coupe turbo ? does seem to go like stink tho compared to mine

im looking into what i can do to make a bit more power from mine u think a twintercooler and live maping would see a bit more or would you need a new turbo and injectors to get more ?

you've also gotta think weight too. I'm guessing its quite easy to make a very lightweight rover 220 cas lets face it they probably arent the safest of cars in a crash. I guess you could say you would win in a crash??

yeah just look at power to weight even standard coupe agaisnt your say 220bhp
/350lbft
bhp/ton lpft/ton
Rover 200bhp 168.78 144.3 and if he has say 230bhp its 194.1 bhp/ton

Leon fr 220bhp 155.4 247.35

if he has a little more than 230 its creeping onto nearly 50bhp/ton more.

I know in what situation you would beat him though and i always say this to my mate in his Civic type r.

If we both had a car full of fat people, luggage, tank full of fuel and we found a really steep long hill, i would certainly beat him to the top.:D

been having a look on some rover forums aswell and with a standard car, with boost turned up to about 12psi(standard they modulate at 7 and max at 11) it gives you about an extra 10bhp and these cars should be able to run 14.9 1/4s at just over 100mph terminals.
