hi guys, hopefully can get some advice.
Was driving home in my cupra 180 when i felt something under the bonnet fly off an under the car, the engine lost all power and the battery light came on.
I limped into the next sidestreet and popped the bonnet expecting to be minus an AUX belt, but its still there? I turned the key and it sounds like the starter is spinning but the engine is not turning over, the aux belt spins also. i popped the cam belt cover to check it wasnt that what had snapped but it looks intact and its only been on the car for 20k anyway so shouldnt be breaking.
Bit stumped really and had a quick search on here but found nothing.
Any ideas?
cheers guys
Lee

sounds liek starters spinning, you mean the bottom ends spinning, sound like youve ripped some teeth off of the belt some how, put a dab of paint on the timing belt, flick the key, it cant do any more damage than it already has, and see if the mark moves, my bets are it doesnt.

as in when you flick the key ? if it doesn't spin, its head off time to view the carnage. mine smashed about 13 valves, done in two cylinders and two pistons. just stuck a recon lump in it instead

it is the belt, and valves are smashed, thats exactly why you need to get onto the peeps. even if it isnt the belt, the fact that you were moving when it went, the bottom end is turning, the top aint, its carnage mate
