lol, this thread is awesome, thumbs up to your mate! What a dude!! :D

VTEC is used to get more power at higher revs. When the engine gets to a certain RPM, it will activate a second set of cams in the engine causing the valves to open for longer, getting air in, and exhast out faster. That is why you get a 'kick' when it activates. VTEC Just kicked in yo!!!

The VVT on the 1.8t uses a hydraulic adjuster which makes the inlet valves open later and have a slight overlap with the exhaust to make the cat converter warm up faster to cut emissions. It is NOT a performance enhancement.

They are both variable valve timing, but aimed at completely different purposes. Toyota have something similar called VVT-i, but it is different again to VVT and VTEC.

at least that's how i know it but no where near as technical :D tell you mate to read this thread please. vvt-i on the toyotas it extreamly simalar to v-tech give a longer red line by engaging cam's etc

the reason they make good power when you slap a turbo on is because you have the low down power of the turbo and then the high end power from the v-tech ;)

vtec = chav these days :( trust me there are tons of type r's in bristol. all noise and no go thats the problem, and why do they always give a doggy look

The friend in question is fairly respected tbh. If anyone knows of him it was Richard Astley? Tbh I would expect him to let me down or tell a lie.

do you mean wouldn't expect him to?

i raced a red one the other day (as we all now red ones are faster) and it did sound mean but i couldn't hear it from behind me :cartman:

same in swindon mate a the look is jealousy ;) and there's loads of chavs in Bristol to i mean loaaaaaaaaaaaaads

My mate told me my car battery is like K.E.R.S and if I strap it to balls I'll get an extra 80 bhp. What do you think shall I give it a go?

***DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS***

Can't be a regular 12v battery though, it needs to be a 24v truck battery so that when you're going for the overtake it runs up the starter motor boosting performance by twice as much

honda vtec is controlled by oil pressure, it allows a pin to be inserted into the larger cam lobes so with larger cam lobes, the engine gets in more air and gets it out quicker, speeding up the combustion process.

they have vvt in quite a few cars, alfaromeo 145/146 and 156 its called the cam variator and does the same as our vvt, it just advances and retards the ignition timing, same as toyota vvt (not to be confused with vvtl - which is toyotas version of vtec ...the l meaning lift...they also use a larger cam lobe ) .... completely different to honda vtec

After talking to a friend of mine who knows a lot about cars, he was explaining to me that when Honda fit vtec is basically like having a small turbo, that's why they make big power from small engines. So we was talking and vtec turbos make huge power, so why not fit a Vtec to a 1.8t engine? I don't know much about them tbh, but my friend seems to know his stuff, so has anyone tried fitting a Vtec to their car? And how easy would it be to do?

Is this a joke thread?

Vtecs having no torque is a complete myth. Show me any 1.6na engine that has the same torque output as a B16?

B16A1
VTEC
Torque: 106 lb·ft (144 Nm) @ 7100 rpm

D16A9
Torque : 105 ft·lbf (143 Nm) @ 5700 rpm

so close!!!!

This is just for info, not to p**s on your parade as I think v-tecs have their place :).

Nissan engines:
SR16VE - 173hp @ 7800rpm / 119lb torque @ 7200rpm
SR16VE N1 - 197hp @ 7800rpm / 134lb torque @ 7600rpm
