Hi all, I have an 03 plate LCR which I have had since it was 3 years old, it had done 33k when I bought it, it has full service history and hasn't wanted for anything since I've owned it at least.

I had a stage 2 remap done in 08 running 24-26psi boost, after fixing multiple boost leaks since then I fixed what I think was the last one at the beginning of last month, then on the 8th I was on a dual carriageway overtaking on a bend, just changed into 5th at about 5k rpm when it sounded like I ran over some loose road chippings, next thing I knew I was sideways in front of the car I had just half overtaken, managed to gain control by dipping the clutch and some opposite lock, I quickly turned ignition to the 1st click as I realised something wasn't right with the engine, rolled it into the layby as smoke started coming through the dash vents, opened the bonnet to find it on fire at the back of the engine near the bulk head, luckily we had just been shopping so managed to put it out quickly with 4 big bottles of water.

From what I can see, I've seen a broken con rod on the plastic under tray, I'm guessing its the hot oil that's ignited, not been under it yet to have a good look, the car has only done 58k, gutted is an understatement and we have a baby due in 5 week or less.

Not really wanting a 2nd hand engine off fleabay that's been around the world twice, thinking about a refurb block or complete engine, apart from spitting rods through the block, what other damage am I likely to find???...IE head, turbo etc, also can anyone recommend any good reliable trustworthy garages that don't charge the earth preferably near Barnsley or Yorkshire???

Any other advice or comments welcome, cheers

I done exactly the same thing have a word with issam from ina on here , I got all my bits from him I had no head damage but the rod and piston was fooked , I was only in second gear when mine went tho , so you may have smashed some valves , hard to tell tho , I got a bottom end for 140 quid from edition 38 forum then had uprated rods pistons valves fitted , done it all on my drive , parts came to about 1300 quid plus fitting from my mate

Cheers pal, I have got a mate that's good but I don't know if this would be a bit too much for him, and don't really fancy doing it on the drive, I'm still mulling over ideas atm and looking at costs of different options.

Anyone recommend anywhere to get this sorted??

Well my mate is coming up Sunday so we can get the head and sump off and have a good look at it, then I can get some prices and take it from there

What a horror story, shocked that it let go after only 58k miles.. glad you and the rest of the car are ok though, could've been worse!

Been there done that... imo all remapped LCR's should have forged rods and oil coolers as a bare minimum for safe operation.

Looks like I'm part of the LCR rod spitting family now...its defo having forged rods when I get it rebuilt and an oil cooler

Well my so called mate let me down again today so got under it for a look...it looks like its snapped a rod and spat it out, I could see the other half of the rod still attached to the piston, there's a hole in the back of the block big enough to almost fit my hand in, the oil pickup pipe is damaged from where the rod vacated the premises, there's another big hole in the back of the sump, and from the fire the only damage I can see is a slightly burned drive shaft gaiter and guard.

Looking for places and prices this week to get it sorted asap before baby arrives so fingers crossed there's no more hidden surprises, took some pics of the damage while I was under the car so I will get them upped this week.

I would really appreciate any info, tips, advise on the best company to sort it, and or best places for blocks, uprated parts etc at the best prices

Remapping any thing close to the 300ftlb is on it limits ,

Mine done exactly the same , engine out job have a look on edition 38 for a bottom end all 1.8t bottom ends are the same , your going to need new pistons not just rods and you will have damaged the piston , call or email ina ask for the same as dan had came to about 1300 quid shipped over , that will have every thing you need
