K&N Induction Kit

Just wondered if any SC Sport (1.4) owners had fitted a K&N 57i Induction Kit? Was browsing ebay and one came up...

If you've got one, does it do anything? Was it easy to fit? Is it worth £65?? haha

It wont increase any performance really, it will just give a nice noise when you press the go pedal

i almost did, just bought a K&N panel filter instead. Get the same amount of air, with no heat soak or anything.
Is better really. I got alightly more MPG when i installed this new filter

I got a drift induction kit on my 1.4 SE and sounds good at around 3000 rpm worth getting if you can get one cheapish

Depends if you a different noise or performance.
That kit will give you a decent noise but no power gain if anything a small loss due to.heat soak.
Panel filter will give a slightly diff noise (tiny bit more growly) and nothing but marginal power gain and improved mpg by like 3mpg.
Id say panel filter but its your choice at end of day

What the hell is a "drift" induction kit?? an induction kit is an induction kit! Cone filter on a pipe!

Technically yes but to be honest its a 2min job to remove should the worst happen and the likelyhood of them opening a standard airbox in an otherwise standard enginebay is very unlikely anyway. Even with a panel filter you'll not really notice a gain, they're very very subtle

In fact unless there's an elbox off the top flange where the airbox feeds air into the engine and pipework to the front grille you'll probably notice a fairly bit power loss! If the K&N kit is the one I'm thinking of on the ibiza it sits on top of the engine at the back of the engine bay since that's where the flange is.....heat rises and there's no fresh air back there

Hasn't gained 700bhp and an ability to ridiculously sideways then??

Aye I know, had thought about it myself but since it's only got 85bhp I certainly wouldn't want to lose any more lol It's been hard enough changing down from a Type R to a 1.4!

Look up the product number on the K&N site and then search for the part number along with a general description on the likes of eBay and you'll soon find it, that's how I found the K&N panel filter on there

if you can guide the filter to the front it will be better than a panel filter.

The idea is to ram the air through the filter as soon in the process as possible, If it has to go through a load of pipes to an airbox and then through the filter it will be the engine gaining resistance to suck the air through the filter. Hence why my new dbilas has the filter built into the airscoop.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to design something along the lines of what I had on my M3 for the ibiza, where the filter is completely shut off from the heat of the engine bay but is exposed to fresh air from the grille. Would need about 2 90deg bends and a few feet of Samco hosing (or similar, as opposed to using alloy pipework that might soak up heat). Keep the design as simple as possible to keep resistance to a minimum). Tempted to have a go at this actually

There you go, will be damn all use though besides making a grunty noise! Sits on top of the engine so it'll just soak up warm air and kill throttle response. Extremely poor design from such a large company who are supposedly experts in induction

Nope, in fact I've seen a video of an ibiza with one fitted and thought it looked completely out of place. It's like something you'd have seen on a Fiesta XR2 back in the day, the way it sits on top of the engine. Even if you were to run a bit of flexi duct which would also look **** it still wouldn't work. I've explained the best and only real way induction kits work in another thread in this section. In all honesty there is no decent open cone setup available for the N/A 1.4 ibiza. A panel filter is your best best if you must change the filter. If it's noise you're after just get a custom exhaust made up for it, at least you won't compromise the little bit of power these engines have
