hi all, im new to the whole cupra/vag scene and have bought myself a nice little yellow ibiza cupra today. just wondered what the maximum power is that you can get out of these engines without changing rods and pistons. ta :)

From what i've read on here maybe around 270bhp which id say is plenty plenty for the size of the car. Get some pics up best colour ;)

Personally i'm looking to hit 200hp with mine after christmas which id say was enough as mines only running 150 and it keeps up with the likes of civic type r's.

thats what i was worried about, i plan on a t3/t4 turbo, external waste gate minifold ect but didnt really want to change any internals as its a bit of a pain in the arse. plus i didnt budget for it so dont have the extra money for internals. oh well, looks like i might have to get saving lol.

mines at 192 bhp with 241 lbs torque according to a printout that i got with the car but im looking for alot more lol.

Why not?
to start with theres 225bhp So after remaps and mods then he'll get moar power! Without touching the internals.

you missing the point slightly mate , the block is the same , the expense to fit a lcr engine in there is more expensive than changing the rods on the mk3 ibiza cupra which is the weak point on all 1.8t engines. and finally the engine in the ibiza cupra will take the same punishment as the engine in the lcr 225 so if your planning on big turbo you wold have to change the rods in lcr engine anyway

Thought they were good for 300hp easy in an lcr? You could get some money back from the sale of the ibiza engine...and doesnt the lcr engine go straight in? Maybe a loom change aswell? I might be missing the point but i thought the 225lcr engine was stronger than the ibiza 20vt one.

The 225 transplant was really just ment to be an idea and the reason for me sugesting it was to see what the ops reaction was and others views onit as i was contemplating doing it.

as said its not hp that bend rods its torque and high cylinder pressures (cause by heat). so by all means there are alot of 1.8t engine running 320+ bhp and 310 + ft/lbs with big turbo set ups and on the other hand there are others than running less than 300 bhp that snap and rods , mostly hybrids from what i read because k03/k04 hybrids create loads of heat and high cylinder pressures cause standard rods to bend .

even if in theory the lcr engine is slightly stronger (which from my knowledge it isn't) not noticeable stronger to take massively more punishment the expensive of the conversion won't be worth it worth it if your going big turbo anyway, if your only doing k04 turbo conversion just get the bits of the lcr that you need and with suitable mapping will make very similar gains to mapped lcr

The lcr engine has 20mm wrist pins same as the ibiza so there no stronger.

Can't see the point in doing this. If you got the time and money to swap the engine just as well do rods and pistons in the engine you got and you will have a sound engine that you can Build too and you no is all good in side! And plus swapping engine's doesn't stop rods from bending!

225/210 motors run 20mm pins same as Ibiza's

Pointless change imho

unless you get a complete k04 engine for free with known history, and want k04 power, get hybrid k03 (which is k04 inside) and far cheaper solution

Im sure with the gt28 eliminator kit u cn acheive just under 300bhp without a rebuild

what sort of bhp u looking for because if in the long run your gonna go over 300bhp no point wasting money now on a small upgrade get it rebuilt with a gt28 or even gt 30 :)

im wanting 300bhp+ lol. but as its my daily runner too, it needs to be relieable so dont want to spunk loads of money at it for it to go bang when its done. if it needs forgeing then ill probly do it and then do the big turbo ect as and when i can afford it.
but if i do forge it, ill do the pistons as well as the rods so i know it will be all sound.

if u wnt to go 300+ then ull have to forge it for it to be reliable 300+ on standard rods is just askin for trouble

so does everybody only really bother doing the rods and not the pistons then?
