my lcr did 38mpg going up the m1 to nottingham at a steady 80mph last weekend it normally does around 25-30mpg normal driving but i've had it to low 20's when booting it.
An LCR is pulling approx 3250rpm in 6th at 80mph, so I guess vwdom's is off-boost at 3250rpm??
In theory, don't see why an LCR shouldn't do that sort of MPG when cruising? After all, it's only an 1800cc lump. Most Euro-designed cars are mapped/geared to run efficiently at the average European motorway speed limit - ie 130km/h (80mph).
And tyre-width aside, an LCR effectively has all the slippery aero kit a BlueMotion-type car has - ie side-skirts, low front spoiler/splitter, front undertray - so an LCR should return decent MPG when cruising - but the reality seems to be different.
It seems odd that LCR owners seem to genuinely report either approx 37mpg or 28mpg at motorway speeds.
My LCR used to do 34-37mpg at motorway speeds, now it's dropped to late-20s.
Makes you wonder if there was an inconsistency with ECUs or some other component during the build process, or when LCRs reach a 'certain age' they start to use more fuel, or...??
I did a mad eco run from Preston to Manchester the other week 50-60mph tops never boosting and I struggled to get 34mpg. In town it was 15-20 mpg which I was expecting but your numbers make me sad I must be missing a trick or somethings not happy with the car :S
i've never had it below 20mpg i was really surprised when i got it how good on fuel it is. remember theres lots of things that can effect your mpg dodgy plugs, incorrectly gapped plugs, dodgy coils, maf, tyre pressures, weight in the car etc
