Ever since I've had decent cars I only use Shell V power but heard that Tesco Momentum is good as well but not sure if its as good as Vpower ?. Don't think there is much of a price difference between these two nowadays ?

Anyone with a first hand experience ?

Momentum 99, never tried V though as theres no shell garages anywhere near me. Dont think theres any difference between the two to be honest. Just like collecting my clubcard points :)

I am a V Power ***** sadly :-( Only thing I have ever put in any of my cars. Should maybe try the Momentum and see if there is any difference tbh.

They are both 99 RON ... a lot of the other Premium Unleadeds from garage and supermarkets tend to only be 97 RON. Both on my Cupra, my previous 350z and Subarus I have seen a decent difference on the rollers (and has been commented on by the tuners and operators) between 99 and 97 RON fuel. The Tescos fuel rated highly in an independent test last year as well as being cheaper than Shell :)

any old crap in my van!
But shell v power in my evo or tescos momentum
to be honest it seems to run better and more economical(ha ha ha) on momentum but that may be down to the map

I think excellium is only 97?? Should i be using 99? or is it personal choice?

Higher the RON higher the energy released when it is burnt.I saw 10bhp difference mapping my 350z purely between Shell 99 RON and BP 97 RON. It is interesting that Jap imports are usually re'map'd on import as they run on 101 RON in Japan ... same as our old 5 star fuel :) The increased ecenomy of the Super Unleaded fuels is down to the blend and additives :)

Cheers for that mate. Not too fussed about it power wise, just wanted to know if it was better for the car (I live really close to a garage that does 97 so it's a lot more convenient for me, but I'd happily travel a bit further to get 99 if it is better for the car)

The benzoates they put in Super are better for the engine but definitely not the environment or wallet :) I used to run either avgas, race fuel or a lot of octane booster in my old drag car ... that was about 106 RON - needed a very different map for that :)

Day to day I use whatever fuel is available but for preplanned holliganism, mapping, rollers etc I use Shell :)

Cheers for the lecture ;)

nah man, Cheers mate, I'll just keep using 97 :)

i pay an extra 5p a litre for tesco premium over standard 95 and i have tried both and gained approx extra 20miles in the tank with the premium

vPower is all I use.......... vPowe is natural farmed higher octane fuel and as a result burns better and produces less carbon in and out of the engine (black on the tail pipes)

Momentum is an additive based high octane fuel, it is basically the normal unleaded with an additive based octane enhancement in it. in my experience this produces A LOT of carbon.

In my experience and when I was testing fuels in my last Cupra the vPower was best for performance, I ran momentum and I also ran Millers EcoMax (previously Sport 4) and both gave the same results. It worked out cheaper to run the Eco Max thou and I saw better MPG with it with the same performance as momentum.

Where do you get the millers products from Phil?

you can get it on ebay, or from most places that sell the oil,

If your going to try it I would say get 2 500ml packs and then if you like it order in bulk.

For Revo mapping thou i would stick with vPower as this is what they use when they develope there maps.

I think you will find shell v power is only 98 Ron
Tesco is 99 Ron
i have used both and swap between them and i dont notice any difference at all.

But 1 thing to take note of is Tesco vary the mixture of their fuels by adding different addatives during winter.
I think there is a sign displayed on the pumps.

Iirc V power is 99 , same as Tesco momentum, BP Super is 97. Used the tesco stuff twice, but found it quite sooty, so only use V power now.

V-power is 99 ron, optimax was 98ron. It depends what country you live in as to the ratings. Just Denmark and UK get 99ron Vpower.
