Hi,

I have a Seat Ibiza 2006 which seems to have a weird problem: if I press the brake, the left rear light does not turn ON, but if I turn the positions ON, it goes ON (normal low light). If I press the brake with positions ON, the light still does not go ON (higher intensity).
I initially thought its a problem with the bulb, but the bulb seems fine in Position Mode. Any ideas? :(

Thank U,
Ionut

If it is the brake Light Switch"", then the right rear brake lamp should not go ON as well no? They should be both OFF or ON, and individual state :(

Sorry, didnt read thr first post correctly. What do you mean by position mode? The bulbs have 2 elements. Do you mean they come on when you turn the lights on, but not with the brake pedal?

If I turn ON the lights, the bulb comes ON (the normal low light). When I press the brake, nothing happens for the left one. This tells me the bulb is fine as its working in Position Mode (Lights ON Mode).

P.S> U mentioned that the bulb has 2 elements: what do U mean by that? Could it be that the connection at brake switch is faulty for the left bulb?

Thank U,
Ionut

Its your bulb, The bulb has two elements in it , the element is what produces the light basically. The element for the brake light will have blown but the element for the side ligh will still be in tact.

That is a double element bulb.

The actual bulb has 2 filaments, one comes on with the lights the other with the brakes. One half of the bulb is blown. Type brake light bulb in google images, it'll show you what I mean ;)

Got it fixed today: the bulb was the problem indeed :)

Thank U, Ionut

Good, maybe its like the Polo of the same age (although it uses differant bulbs), in as much as the light cluster contacts are simple zinc plated steel and very strong - should be plated sprung steel, what happens is, the "far too high" pressure on the bulbs flatens the solder contacts and then bulbs stop working - now I had never every come across that in a car before, that was before it happened to me last weekend - and Halfords only had 2-off suitable bulbs in stock 9but not what was listed for that car - repaired old ones and kept them as spares as the spare VW supplied kit for that car also has the wrong bulbs in it!
