hi all,
I've been trying to get vcds working on my 6l ibiza, but it keeps on telling me my car is not obi/obdii. so my question is what cable do i need? I'm using a cable bought from alpha bid when i had my leon and that worked fine but I'm starting to think i need a can cable?? please can anyone shed any more light on this??

thanks in advance

dave

Thanks for your help! I'll have a look round see what I can find, just looking at a vas kit on eBay

My records show that a 6L Ibizza does not need CAN. Maybe our records are wrong -- but, I don't think so. So you should be able to use VCDS-Lite and an aftermarket wire to do diagnostics on your car.

Also, all CAN interfaces must be genuine Ross-Tech to work with our full VCDS software. No CAN interface is compatible with VCDS-Lite.

Ibiza 6L is K-line to ecu and can between ECU and some of the other modules like instrument panel for example.

That part of the CAN bus is not part of the Diagnostic bus.... The modules may communicate using CAN between each other but if the diagnostic information is not connected to a CAN gateway, then the diagnostics are done through the k-Lines.

CAN Diagnostics are the issue. I do not believe your platform does the diagnostics via CAN and the documents we have support my view. Again, these may be wrong but I don't think so......

Yes, I'm agreeing with you lol, basically, no need for CAN diagnostics, anyway, you should know, I'm using your software ;) I should have explained better. Versions 3xx and 4xx cables work and they don't support CAN.
