Just read the LCR Vs Clio thread and it reminded me of Saturday Night!

Pulled up against a Mazda 3 MPS (256bhp) standard, it was just the driver in the Mazda, i was carrying me plus 3... but boy did he pull away!

Unsure whether he was standard or mapped, i'm assuming mapped - ridiculous turbo scream! I wasnt surprised to be honest due to the weight i was carrying, but d4mn that thing sounds awesome!

Has anyone owned one? How quick are they compared to the LCR (Mapped) ?

I had one for a while when it came in p/x to my old work! Mental fast for 260bhp, very torquey (sp)

Can be owned for not a lot of money too now!

I totally appreciate that you had bodies in your car but theres been 2 threads in 2 days where LCR are struggling.

Whats goin on boys??????????????

Not struggling.... Iv got a mapped LCR (280hp 313lb torque) and my success stories are are impreza wrx (not sti) Porsche boxer, and a Nissan 350z :) just need to get this slipping clutch sorted :/

Good one Mate!

Wrx are whack anyway 220, 240 bhp or something lol

350z is like 300bhp NA so thats impressive. My LCR is getting sorted next month, back on the road so i can start having some fun.

the clio one is strange as i have been neck and neck with a clio 172 in my 180bhp cupra.

it does however have the edge on roundabouts but he could not shake me off. it may be down to driver skill and i dont class myself as a highly skilled driver but i would have imagined a re-mapped cupra r would destroy a clio 182. this has really dissapointed me in these cars performance capabilities. maybe we all need to loose some weight and invest in some coilies as this will sort out handling and power 2 weight ratio.

i know anything above legal speeds the cupra r will own the clio but its the legal speeds where it matters. i know a better diff will help put the power down but we dont all wheel spin upto 70mph do we????

obviously the 1.8t engine is considered on of the best engines ever and especially highly tunable so this is definatly a advantage over the clio. wont see a clio breaking 500bhp on a standard block :funk:

If the Mazda was mapped then it's not surprising you got reamed.

On a Stage 1 BBR claim to get 290bhp and 330lbft (got to love that bigger bore 2.3 for torque :) ).

Stage 2 gives a rather sweet 320bhp with 370lbft... just thank Mazda for fitting a proper mechanical LSD as standard, none of this e-diff crap from VAG...

My mate had an MPS and once I managed to stop spinning the wheels it was pretty much neck and neck. He had the edge off the line tho.

my mate has one, 07 plate (one without the scoop) not put them side by side but it feels quick and after about 15 runs at pod he did a 14.7 best. very nice cars!

The Mazda is a bit weighty compared to the LCR, it tips the scales at around 1480kg so about 100kg more than the LCR.

Same as a fat mate in the passenger seat lol.

yeh, because we can crack 500 on a standard block too.

For 500 on these you need rods, pistons and valve train. Which, funnily enough is all a Clio needs internally too...

Feedback seems to be these mps are quick buggers. Iam going to have to make sure my LCR has got poweerrrrr
