Yea I'm not a racer either I like style hence why I had a 1.2. Dam your young to get a 1.9tdi! That's your first car! Your not going by the age old rule of that your first cars always rubbish lol it's like religion lol

I'm 16, 17 in a few Months.
Been saving for an Ibiza since Christmas and only recently landed myself a 'decent' job that will ensure I have enough by September at the latest. I know what you're going to say, don't get a 1.9 as your first car but the thing is I've been into car for years and had my heart set on one. I plan to keep it for a number of years though and wont be an :censored: with it. I'm not into boy racer stuff

yeh we are going to say that, set your budget and wait, get one you actually want, you'll be much happier, and if your 16 now obviously it means you havent passed your test yet and barely started taking lessons?

for a 1st car you want 1 of these bad boys:
KP04AEYFrontofHouse.jpg

that was mine all of 63bhp, was a monster but i loved it, great fun to drive

Yep my baby was all of 62!!! Yes 62 BHP lol. Your gunna get the talk now about inexperience with power but I assure you, it is a killer! I know what it's like when you think your better than you are and get a bit 'involved' when a car comes up and thinks he can burn you. With experience you know your boundaries hence why buy something replaceable for your first as you only learn via mistakes.

Nope not yet, I've driven my mums Aygo on private ground and can drive fine (clutch control, perception etc)

I'm all in for looks! I want the 1.9 so I don't have to save again for it if I went ahead and bought a 1.2 just now. I'm not into speed, if fact I actually hate going fast in a car so I'll treat it like a 1.2 and when I'm older and wiser open the taps to it's full potential.

But you've got to make mistakes mate and if you do it in this car your dreaming of it will break your heart of you damage it! Trust me it's horrible even when you scratch the paint when your keen about cars.

well in all honesty mate just buy the 1.2 take the advise from us, you will get canned on your insurance either way, the 1.2 will be less, unless your doing the distance no point really getting the diesel over the 1.2, and frankly if something goes wrong at 17 can you afford a replacement turbo, intercooler, the tyres will have to be higher rating, the costs are much higher than you think.

Also until you experience rush hour traffic from behind the wheel you will never appreciate the sheer terror that is the M25, the motorway system, or people like me ie peak rush hour drivers that give no quarter to newbies on the road as we know where we are and dont want to be held up by newbies

Haha Phil you sounded like a right arse then lol. But he is right mate. Have you done insurance checks yet? Also even I did t realise the price of how much some things are with this engine! The 1.2 I spent barely anything on it apart from aesthetic mods. Most I sent was the on the service which I done myself at a maximum price of £60 lol. A service on this is about £90 if you buy best parts and buying everything! Tbf I'm paying £1468 per year insurance an I'm 20. A 17year old newbie will be about 4k!

im proud of it, the fact is tho most motorists between 7-8am know where they want to be, know their route and do not want to be held up, ,e personally i use the M1 to get to and from work along with the other duel carridge ways and it drives me up the wall when doddery bugger hasnt got a clue what lane there supposed to be in and does something stupid and causes an accident as they are mixing with experienced drivers who go as the crow flys as such i see it weekly, and thats coming from a trundler who does 65mph on the cruise control all the way from Kettering to MK, but I know my lanes I know my route and you learn very quickly how people are going to react and some of the stuff they do is dangerous but you only learn through experience cause the first time it happens you wont see it coming.

just done a mock quote at 17 first car, 1.2 was £2300, 1.9TDi 100bhp £3850, FR TDi £4400, Cupra TDi - £11234 haha kind says it all really

Probably should have mentioned that legally it wouldn't be my car as I'm going on my mums insurance. With my old man and I as named drivers, insurance quote is £1900 which is affordable. Although I wont be earning my own no claim discounts. :/

Oooo the M1 what a road

Where you get your CC done to? But yea that does say it all.

Sam

Cc was done at my usual place unit 18 in MK about £250, well worth it, yeh the m1 pia lol

Oops lol. That was a write off?? My first Ibiza got write off due to an idiotic driver!!

Sam

Nope but was £2300 worth of damage (wings bumper, headlight, steering arm, drive shaft alloy and tyre) settled 50/50 because of a dozy cow and a set of traffic lights and I couldn't prove otherwise, when I got it back it never felt the same so I swoped it in for a new 1.4 sport 100 which lasted until I got a promotion and I bought the fr a year later lol

Well will make it cheaper but if you can get a policy for yourself do it and then you can get the car you really want

That will kill you when you want to fly from the nest of their insurance. You will still be paying overly priced premiums. NCB is everything for insurance.

Sam

This is true. But my 1st year was on my dads name, and it was £1800 for my 1.2. Then this year on my own name with a different insurance company was £1300 lol. Worked out pretty well for me, but the whole named driver on parents policy thing is a bit dodgy, as its technically illegal.

You and that bloomin unit 18 lol. They make a mint off you lol

Sam

They do a good job, they are well priced, local to work and I trust them all the things that are hard to find in a garage, timekeeping can be a bit iffy when busy but you know what I think I can live with that lol
