Hello folks,

yesterday i replaced the battery in my key fob (even though it wasn't flat or anything)

it didn't need replacing but i just thought id stick a fresh one in..................it was working fine until i changed the battery??

the led flashes red etc so i no the batterys in the right way before anyone says lol,

ive also had a play about with the contacts etc inside of the fob (the 2 brongs that contact with the battery) but still no joy

I've also followed the instructions in the manual for re-synchronising the fob to the car ie unlock car with spare key.......turn on ingnition then......... lock with key with fob on and then press lock and unlock with this key etc to no avail,

it doesnt do anything when i try to re-programme the key......................no indicators flash etc??

ive searched on here for an answer but all i can find is info on how to re-program which ive already tried?

I cant understand why it would work fine one minute but not the next???

any help would be greatly appreciated folks,:)

same thing has just happened to me - phoned SEAT about it and they think that the immobiliser sensor (a very small black rectangular piece) has problem fell out whilst changing the battery - was no joy in finding this immobiliser piece..

Outcome for me was a new key from SEAT, which comes to approx £150 all in.

expensive battery change for me!! so hopefully yours doesn't require a new key!!

Have a look in the key to make sure the transponder is still there (it's a small glass cylinder that looks a bit like a fuse). When I was fiddling around with my key, this was quite loose and not stuck in as I was led to believe! If it's not there, get looking on the floor!

If the key still starts the car it wont be the transponder.
It sounds like the remote wont operate the locks any more, if this is true do you know any one with VCDS ?

Sometimes you have to delete the remote with VCDS then re add it.

What is the problem exactly?

Does the key start the engine, but won't remotely open/lock the car?
Or does it not work remotely, and doesn't start the engine?

The glass chip is the immo, this is needed to start the engine (not required for remote locking). If this has fallen out or got cracked then it will need replaced before you can start your car with the key (you can get them on ebay for £9 and someone with the right tools or SKC & VCDS can quickly sync it to your car).

If it is just the remote part is not working, then I believe you have a window of ~40 seconds between removing the old battery and putting new one in, before it loses sync with the central convenience module.
If you can access VCDS then all you do is go into the CCM, clear all remote keys then individually press a button on them until the CCM then recognises them again and stores it.

In the years I've had my mk5 Golf, I've had to replace remote fobs as they have seemingly died even though the red light comes on. Later SEAT's use the same fob so it may have coincidentally failed.

my one where I replaced the battery doesn't start the car (alarm goes off) but it does open the doors

the manual spare key no longer starts the car either

I will do yes, they are programming the new one next tues for me.

I currently have:

one remote key that works as normal.

one remote key that unlocks the car, but doesn't start it.

& one non-remote key which again unlocks the car, but does't start it.

Weird, did the non remote key ever start the car?

Sounds like the chip in it is damaged or at some point someone has cleared it from the immobiliser.

If it's going into SEAT then hopefully they'll get it reactivated for you as part of the cost.

The wife thinks that she has used it, but she possibly hasn't. I definitely haven't used it, so it is possible that it has never worked since we have owned the car..

Like you say hopefully SEAT sort out that key for us aswell while it's in.

Safe to say I won't be changing any battery's in the key fobs again after all this!!

Thats right, then approx £45 for SEAT to program it - a tad under £200 in total !
I had to go down the new Keyfob route when the other half LOST my car keys!

The expensive bit isnt the fob/electronics, but getting the actual (flip) KEY cut for your car.

There's a bloke on eBay who wll supply a coded blade cut to two good pictures for about a tenner.

Used him a few times now as I've added spare keys to my Altea, and also made a new one up completely for a friend's Altea.

The key with the lock/unlock buttons on still starts the car fine and everything....... The spare key I have also starts the car!

I can still drive it as normal, it's just annoying not been able to use the buttons on the fob to open the car! It's pants using the key to unlock the car then having to put it In the ignition to then Press the unlock button inside the car to unlock the other doors!

I rang seat today and explained to one of there technicians that I'd changed the battery in the fob and it no longer works....... I told him it worked fine until I'd changed battery and also I followed the instructions in the Manual and still it won't work!

He told me It sounds like it needs to be recoded to the car again? He said something along the lines of the codes need clearing and a new code putting on (if that
Makes sense to anyone???)........ This is done online or something and they'd take about 30 mins to sort it...........£48 it'll cost

I normally do anything on my car myself...... I stay away from the dealers who are robbing cun.ts...... But this time I think I'll have to let them sort it!

Great ain't it when you need to pay seat £48 all because I changed the battery in my fob..... Yeah thanks seat :-(

Where you based?

Someone with a CAN VCDS cable can do this in minutes.

Go to CCM, adapt keys at 000 to clear all, then channel 001 input how many remotes, save, then press fob buttons individually. Should then be resynced.

i had this problem... my key fob suddenly stopped working so i replaced the battery i tried using websites like youtube, and fourm to figure out the problem... I soon gave up and started facing facts that i had messed it up.. HOWEVER 2-3 Days later it started working.. so try giving the key a little knock or something.. seat would want you to get another key so they can make some extra cash.. im sure its nothing..

I have been posting off my phone so sorry for fairly vague explanations, here is a better way of describing it...

Go to 46-Central Conv.

In adaption use 000 to clear all linked remotes, enter channel 001 then input how many remotes you have (2?), test/save then within a few seconds press either lock/unlock for at least a second on the first key, release then do the same again for the other key - should then pair up assuming the new fob is right for the car.
