hi guys just getting a seat leon fr+ 2.0tdi supercopa in 2 weeks in nevada white, and was wondering what the main diffrences are between the pump duse and the common rail diesels are, ive had the 140 tdi engine before in a3 sline, n so i take it there quieter , but notice there identical power etc

pd engine gets up to speed faster and feels more torquey

cr engine is bit quieter and has a lot better mpg

PD is older technology. It uses a Unit Injector which is at very high pressure driven off the camshaft. Down side being a fixed number of injections (so its more rough). Also a batch of incorrectly treated cam followers messed up a lot of engines. You also needed specific oil to protect the cam followers.

The Common Rail approach is more in line with current diesels and is very similar to petrol injection engines. Allows for finer control of smoothing injections. Injection pressure is a lot higher now in CR engines.

One of the pluses of the PD engines was the 'sporty' torque delivery which made them feel very fast. AFAIK no 2.0 TDI's were PD.

ahh thanks for the quick responses guys, looking forward to getting the new seat, as i said ive had audi a3 sline 2.0tdi 140, and after that bmw 320d msport, so im expecting them to be quite simmilar in economy, performance, thanks again :)

Eh? Most VAG 2.0 TDI's from 2004 - 2008 are.

All pre-facelift Leon 2.0 TDI's are PD IMO. I think all Golf MK5 2.0 TDI's are PD too. The A3 would be the same I guess.
