Some of the cheaper places will even place a bit of heating oil in their diesel :/
A station near me was closed down a few years ago due to watering down their fuels! Not good

Is it Shell or BP thats started adding GTL(gas to liquid) to the fuel giving a cleaner burn?Unlike diesel it is completly clear and when burnt gives off a lot less soot, which is very good news for EGR's, DPF's etc.
Going back to the comment of diesel is basically diesel. No it isn't. Fuel is basically a store of energy. The higher the quality of fuel, cetane level etc, when the fuel gets compressed and goes bang, it goes with a bigger bang, giving more power.

For Fuelsave diesel Cetane is guaranteed 51 typically 55-58
For V-power diesel Cetane is guaranteed 51 typically 53-55; The benefits of V-power are not derived from the cetane rating.

Cars do use adblue.
