Nice car

Given that it is a black LCR with anthracite wheels and a re-located front number plate I was bound to like it. And you even live in my favourite city :D

Keep up the good work.

Thanks a lot!
Love your side mounted number plate! That was my original intention but couldn't get it to look right :\

Forgot I had ordered this....

100mm silicone for cone filter extension. Then it'll be in a better position for the heat shield I'm currently making.

Cheers. What have you done with your front plate? None of your pictures with the modified grille show where the plate ended-up.

Back in the original place... :/ lol
But the original plastic mount is removed, so more air flow to the intercooler. But not sure on the non standard mesh look next to the standard fog grilles.
Are you in Norwich then?

Oil Cooler, Sandwich Plate, Heat Shield

Cooler and sandwich plate arrived today
Going to find some fittings and hose tomorrow and possibly fit.

Template for heat shield finished, will also get aluminum sheet tomorrow.

Fitted the oil cooler the other day. Was fairly straight forward to do.

I stupidly forgot/ignored the fact I'd need a shorter oil connection pipe to make this work, so ended up cutting down the original one!
I've since ordered the correct pipe and gasket and will fit later.
All seems to be working ok so far and I've noticed a big difference in oil temperature! Hasn't been over 90 degrees yet. So it'll hopefully keep it at a safe temperature on Thursday - TRACK DAY :D

Here's some pictures...

Cooler mounted on long bolts and rubber washers to prevent too much vibration.
I bought the oil fittings locally and they didn't have 2 x 90degree angles so I used 1 45degree which worked fine.

Sandwich plate and filter in place with new fittings

Tried many times to see where a 3" feed would fit but it was only possible with the bumper off.

Fits in a good position for maximum air flow.

The only thing I haven't done yet it block or join the old cooler coolant pipes so I've left the standard cooler connected in the engine bay until I get a U shape connector.

How come you're not having a bottom to the heat shield?

Hadn't even thought about that to be honest. It fits fairly tight everywhere and the bottom is reasonably sealed. Haven't seen others with a bottom in either

Very nice car. Wanna see how that heat shield looks

Thanks! I'll post a picture up as soon as soon as its done.

Unfortunately I left actually booking the track day too long and its fully booked!
I've been added to the reserve list and will still go with a friend and take some pictures/be passenger.

What car was the shorter union off mucka? And how hard was it to get the old cooler off?

I think it's from a Golf
Thats the part number - 059 115 721
(Haven't actually got the part yet but assume its the correct one)

Removing the old cooler it pretty easy.
Just a case of unscrewing the oil filter,
Then undo a nut that holds the cooler on,
Slide the cooler down, off the oil connection pipe,
And pinch the pipe clips open with pliers and remove the coolant pipes from the cooler,
Block the pipes off or connect them together.

Sweet cheers mucka ill have to see if the thread union is the same thread as my ibiza cupras oil filter

As long as you're happy with it mate. Mines got a bottom to it:

That is a lovely heat shield! Haha.
Seen it before and never realized it had a bottom in. Cut it out today and I think it'll be ok for now :)

No worries, if you buy a Mocal sandwich plate it comes with another threaded pipe that connects to the new pipe on one end and the oil filter on the other. So the new connection pipe doesn't actually hold the oil filter directly.
(hope that makes sense)

Cut out the heat shield this evening. Will polish it up later but fairly happy with it so far :)

Used some greenhouse rubber as trim for now, hopefully it'll stay on and look ok. If not I'll buy some proper trim.

Just waiting for delivery of another pipe to extend the filter enough.

Spent some time today checking the car over, topping up fluids and checking tyre pressures ready for tomorrow!
Early start - 7:30

Will update later :)

Back in 1 piece! :D

Fantastic day at Snetterton!
Started off wet and very slippery, so glad it dried up by lunchtime and could get a few grippy sessions in.
First time I'd been on track so a lot to learn with regards to braking, changing gear, then turning etc.
Had a friends dad giving me some pointers.
Used nearly a whole tank of fuel, tyres still in good condition, oil didn't go above 105degrees so cooler is working well.

Couldn't get enough grip on the corners as I started getting faster :\
So rear ARB and track tyres for next year I think

Car hasn't ever been so dirty so I'll treat it to some snowfoam and a good wash later.

Didn't take many photos but here's 1 I like...
