TEESSIDE
when i got my car back after service the forms said the back tyres are stepped a little

what does this mean in simple terms, ive read about uneven tyre wear on the back tyres

Basically the inside edge of the rear tyres are like the blade of a saw, sometimes it's called stepped, other people call it saw tooth wear. Shouldn't be a problem but when it gets bad it makes a loud humming noise, like your bearings are fooked

be time for new tyres then, theres 7mm tread on them but there only a mid range tyre

can this be resolved with 4 wheel alignment on a hunter machine

Proper alignment will correct the issue and stop it happening. It's a must if you fit new tyres otherwise they'll end up wearing like your old ones. I believe incorrect TOE causes stepping/sawtooth wear.

It may correct it and stop any new tyres wearing like it but it won't correct the tyres that already have the saw tooth wear. Once they're worn like it , that's it.
