Hellooo!!!

(To clear things up before i start as forgot to add Astra H not GTC! and ibiza mk5) :)

Now for starts ive been looking alot on the forum and cant see much but form what i can see there's alot of talk about corsa vxr's vs the ibiza cupra's and cupra's coming out on top. Just.

Now i wanted to get your opinion on this debate between astra and ibiza as tbh i like both cars but cant quite decide ;)

Thought i would ask cupra.net rather than vxronline as more astra vxr drivers would think they could piss all over a cupra but im not so sure, specially from what ive read paper work wise.

Even though im on cupra.net keep it even guys i want to hear good and bad points about both the cars :) fair fight haha

So far based on the test drives ive done:

ASTRA:
-So far i think the astra looks fair amount better and bit more grown up also with alot more power the 30-90 sort of side is better??
-Handling doesn't really bother me on the astras, i really dont plan on going 100mph around a corner but handling can be helped by RARB and springs :)
-Rather surprisingly the astra felt more comfordable to drive and the power was there and read soons i put foot down (hated that delay on ibiza)
-There proberly other things but cant really think right now

IBIZA:
Im loving the interior on the ibizas and auto gear box is something i have to get used to though but im guessing once i do its lovely to have :)
-Its alot cheaper to insure and around same to run
-That 0-60 time as really got me interested.. autotrader says 7.2 but you guys are saying 5.5-8? wow haha
-Again if i can think of anything else will add at later point.

So guys be honest i know im on seat forum but if you think astra better just say :)

THANKS!! :)

(p.s sorry for long a** paragraph and and spelling mistakes ext..)

I looked at Astra GTC SRi TDCi vs Ibiza FR 2.0TDi

The GTC Astra does look very tidy but I do like the clean look of the Ibiza SC bodyshape

I was lucky enough to be able to have one of each as hire cars for a week each and ironically to do the exact same trek through Germany.

The Ibiza won the fuel economy battle hands down.
The Astra was more comfy and bigger - the boot is much bigger
Astra felt nicer on autobahn - Ibiza felt nicer in lanes.
Ibiza came with spare wheel - Astra has a can of foam.
Ibiza will take an aftermarket double DIN headunit - No chance in the Astra.
I can add the spoiler and Skirts to the Ibiza - All the astras look alike with not much available to change.

Both cars would have done what I needed.

In the end - for me it came down to running costs

Ibiza had better fuel economy and was much cheaper to insure.

Yes i have to say the GTC is nice car but not being funny it was bit too boring for me, bit too grown up haha but like you said you cant really do much with it body wise

Thanks for the reply and info much appreciated :)

Well depends what your after really. I've never driven a Astra vxr but know a few people that have one and they say there quick but they don't handle to we'll and they torque steer loads. I heard if you get a quaife LSD will solve that and transform the cars handling.

The cupra handles pretty well but it isn't the best. I've lowered mine with springs and its still not the best so I'm looking into strut braces to improve things even more.

Where I'm from there's about 5+ Astra vxr's in the area they tend to hang out I. The local McDonald's car park. All of them have ridiculous loud exhausts that pop and bang everywhere.

The running costs of the cupra will be a lot less and insurance wise it will be better as its still a 1.4. My insurance was £17 more than my old corsa 1.4 Sri with 89bhp :p.

My experience of both. I've had a coming together with a modified Astra vxr at the lights not sure what he had but I have revo stage 1 software and I had him off the line to about 40-50mph then he had more steam and sailed by. With revo I'm getting just unfolded 6 secs to 60 :)

The thing is the cupra/bocanegra is a real head turner in the fact there so nice and there's not many around. When loads of people have a vxr.

Hope this helps

even 6 secs to 60 is mighty impressive in my eyes, but i see what you mean about the astra vxr you can get some.. "chavs" driving them giving them a bad name which is another reason i like the cupra's

There arnt many around no, infact theres none in my area for a good 90 miles!! haha only 2 nearly new ones haha there abit too pricey for me atm

Yes definitely helps thanks :)

Not driven a Cupra or a VXR, but got a 2.0tdi Astra courtesy car when my Ibiza was in the garage and it pains me to say it but the Astra was a much nicer place to be than the Ibiza.
Bigger, more comfortable seats, larger range of adjustment on the steering wheel, better specced all round, felt better built, better sound system, much quieter on the inside. Altogether, more grown up.

What is wasn't was anywhere near as fun to drive as the my Ibiza, the steering wasn't as sharp, it didn't feel as engaging. I can thoroughly agree with Deano's assessment, the Ibiza is great on a twisty country lane having some fun, the Astra is much nicer just planting your foot and going.

TBH, I was slightly sad to have to give it back, sure there were little grumbles like the boring drive, and not quite getting on with the clutch pedal (probably because it was new and I was used ot the older one on my ibiza) but all in all, my ibiza will be going as soon as I can trade up to an Astra level car.

Standard I reckon after a standing start the astra will pull away, mapped however. I have played with my mates astra vxr and pulled on him from a start and on the move. Not driven an astra vxr so can't really comment on the rest.

I think the mpg And other costs compared to the vxr will be cheaper on the cupra. One of the main reasons for getting one was affordable fast fun.
Cant remember my 60 time standard but it was much quicker than book figures and mapped it ran 5.7 I think

Solid info there cheers :) i think the vxr are alot different drive wise specially with that steering as the sports button sharpens it up along with few other things, just stuck between the two haha

what map are you running to be able to pull away from astra?? lol if i did get astra would get stage 2 straight away to be able to pull away from cupra's like yours :p BUT do i want quick and nippy (like yours) or fast and powerful (astra) :stars: :stars:

Never driven a vxr but I do own a cupra. The cupra will be a lot cheaper to insure and tax and a lot cheaper on fuel!! But the vxr will obv be faster standard vs standard but you can always increase power on the cupra without spending a fortune and without damaging fuel econemy .

Ive been in a few astras and to be fair there half decent (pretty unreliable from my experiences but good with a few mods to the power/handling) , id take a megane 250/265 over one anyday if i was heading down the 2.0T route as its a much better all rounder.

The cupra is very very quick with a few mods but i find the handling abit average out of the box, it depends what you want from the car, personally i think there isnt much better than the cupra for price/performance but it comes with its issues

i have to agree with that, i would take the megane over the astra (thats actually my next planned car)

the astra is faster, but your comparing it to the ibiza and its very much a different car. the Ibiza is like the corsa vxr, the astra is like the leon cupra

Never really took fancy to the megane, thought they was a pretty ugly car D;

A leon is abit too big for me, its always been choice of ibiza cupra or astra vxr (corsa vxr is ugly too haha)

Not trying to be funny about the whole ugly thing but if im spending 10k of my own money has to be what i want :)

I like the meganne, the cupra is lovely.

However what puts me off the Astra VXR is most people i know who own them are arsehats.

Most of them I see on the road are driven by arsehats too. :/ put me right off.

100% agree, seems to be the vauxhall theme around where i live :(

Yeah i see what you mean :/
Although there's virtually only a few for a long way round my area, quite rare to see tbh lol what got me interested in them in first place, wasnt your every day car but i think theres alot more of them the more north you go

Hi i hope i can help. I use to have a vxr and it was a great car. In my eyes your comparing to cars which are hard to compare. The astra should be compared to a leon in my eyes due to the similar size and power. Running cost on the vxr are ££££ as i find the ibiza so much cheaper. Vxr torque steers has bad handling. My dad has the cupra and in my eyes its a better car. Alit better handling cheap to run ie fuel tax service and insure. Dsg box is awesome the gear change is instant! I have the ibiza fr 2.0cr tdi. Its been remapped and with the torque being 310 pounds its as much fun if not better to drive than the vxr. Pluss it £90 a year to tax and on average im seeing 50mpg. Im 24 years old and its £350 a year insurance. Down side in my opinion is the interior of the ibiza's are piss poor build quality compared to the vixer. But theres so much more pros than cons in my eyes to go for the ibiza. No brainer! But i think you should compare the leon before making your choose. Now that is a beast of a car! Look at the new leon fr supercopa its stunning!
