I'll be receiving an iPhone 5 shortly as an upgrade from the 4 and currently have the Seat cup holder dock which enables steering controls to work the iPhone. I know there's the adapter you can buy to accommodate the new 'lightening connector' but I presume that this will then make the phone too big to fit into the dock.

Is there a new dock for the iPhone 5? I can't seem to find one anywhere, or is there another way of connecting the new phone to the car and still enable steering controls?

Cheers

I don't think you'll find docks with these specifications all so soon. I suppose you can ask the place that sold you the dock if they have something that can make it work on the iPhone 5, perhaps they do, or even a new dock designed for the iPhone 5 for that matter.

I think you'll just have to buy one of the adapters. I've just ordered the phone myself and will be doing the same.

Unfortunately, you might have a problem making it fit!

I don't have the iPhone dock in my Cupra but I can confirm that the iPhone 5 will work with the combined USB/Aux cable when using the 30 pin adaptor. It did take some time for it to recognise it and threw up some errors the first few times. It also charges no problem.

Thanks for all the replies. Will using the adapter though not make the iphone too tall to fit into the dock?

I'd be interested to know if using the adapter everything works the same.

Is this iPhone adapter worth a buy, I'm picking up my Leon Sport this sunday and I want some gadgets for the ICE, cheers

Its the most OEM looking dock you can get for the iphone/ipod (although as mentioned above iphone 5 will probably be too tall to fit under the top clip).

The £80 odd quid Seat charge is a bit steep though but PM me if you're interested as I'm getting rid of my one for a lot cheaper than that as I no longer have an iphone.

Cheers for that mate - I'm enticed to see how they work/fit. Because for that kind of money I'd expect it to be really good. Do you plug the cable from the unit into just the USB, or both USB and Aux?

It has USB and Aux cables at the back of the cup mount that plug in at same time.
This gives you full control over iphones and ipods including playlists, etc..it also gives you track/playlist info on the dash MFD display.
The cup part just basically fits snugly into the cup holder and looks proper oem built-in.

Exciting times..bet you can't wait to pick the car up mate !

Sounds a lot easier to just control the music via the controls fitted with the car, as in my current vehicle when switching songs via my iPod I sometimes think police may mistake me for using/texting on my phone whilst driving!

Other than that though, I'll have to a little research on it and if I decide I like it I'll pm you!

It is mate, I'm so glad it's friday tomorrow! haha...

Making a 200 mile round trip to pick the car up so it'll be a nice drive back to get me settled into it! :)

Just as a side line to this thread. We have tried Kenwood / Alpine / Pioneer 2012 model year headunits with USB sockets and the original Apple iPhone 5 lightning dock lead and all seems to work fine.

Detecion time and loading time seem to be very slightly slower than iPhone 3/4/4S models but we are talking an extra couple of seconds at most.

Are you using a genuine apple adapter? I have one of the cheap ones off ebay and attached it to my usb/aux cable and it charges the phone but doesnt recognise it to play the music. I was abit reluctant to pay £20 for an adapter but if it allows me to play music then i will do

Thanks for the note. I'll be sure to keep it away from sight - it's aggravating to know that as the only way you can control your music (in an only aux input car) is to manually control your iPhone/iPod which is annoying.

Well I've tried the adapter on the original dock, and I get 'media not supported' but it charges. I've bought a cable to try instead, again with an adapter and it still says media not supported but doesn't charge via that cable.

Anyone got a decent solution for plugging the iPhone 5 and controlling it via the stereo controls that works?

Perhaps a bit late to reply now, but I picked up my Leon last weekend and I charge it via the USB and Bluetooth it to the stereo to control music and get the phone. Seems to work fine with the MFD too.
