140ps 1.4 TSI...

Is this a new/newer engine to the 1.4's of previous (Leon MK2, Ibiza MK4 etc) ....Are they all the same engine with different levels of tuning?

I've read a little about VW's 'cylinder deactivation technoogy' on they're engines...but I haven't read anything regarding it on the Seats so I'm just presuming that its something that just gives VW an edge when it comes to engine spec?

As far as I know, the more powerful 1.4 TSI in the new LEON (and A3, GOlf etc.) is a completely new engine. At least that's what all the press say - no links to the previous 1.4 TSI's whatsoever.

I had seen the engine info from wiki...but it was still a little confusing! I believe a few were TSI with superchargers which have now been discontinued due to issues...Is that whats on the Ibiza Cupra's / FR's ? Too many engines haha!

Don't think the twincharger has been discontinued. It is still in the face lifted ibiza range including the upcoming cupra too. I know most of the issues have been resolved as it only seems to have affected early models. There was a change in engine code from about 61 plate onwards I think.

Ah yes - as posted by on another forum:

Golf Mk7

1.2 petrol CJZA, CJZB - Belt driven.

1.4 petrol CMBA, CPVA - CPTA, CHPA - Belt driven.

Correct - this 1.4 TSI is an all new engine compared to the older versions. The big difference is its a return to using a Cambelt, the current TSIs are chain driven.

Is it just a matter of opinion wether chains or belts are better?

Not really, they both have pros and cons. A chain is theoretically more durable and should last the life of the engine, but doesn't always and tends to degrade refinement. A belt will generally require changing at a fixed interval (i.e. 4 years/ 40k) otherwise it risks snapping and destroying the engine.

These are different as its supposed to be a belt that lasts the life of the engine but only time will tell if that is actually the case.

In one just-auto.com 21.03.13 article about Leon, it is mentioned that 1.4 TSI with ACT (Active Cylinder Technology) will be available for Leon in next year.

Sorry, can't post links yet:
In 2014, a high performance variant will be launched, the replacement for the turbocharged Cupra R. Another additional version inked in to next year's launch calendar will be powered by the Volkswagen Group's new 1.4 TSI with ACT (Active Cylinder Technology).

Anybody know where the twincharhed starts and turbo only stops on this list?

The reason i ask is there is alot of different outputs for what seems the turbo only engine

Mine is a caxc engine but the mk6 golf tsi(cfba) has more output, and the same again for the BMY engine and so on down the list.

Id be interested to know what physical differences are changed in order for higher output. Or is it ecu tweaks??

Agree, BMW have had a nightmare with numerous chain failures on their N47 diesel engine even with mods from 2009 build the chains are still snapping usually ends up with a new engine :wtf:

Yeah the BMW ones have been problematic. I've got a one owner from new 2003 3-series sitting here with the N42 engine, its been maintained and looked after serviced every year at the main dealer but the chain has gone rendering the car worthless and undriveable :(

The old 140 and upwards is turbocharged and supercharged, but the new 140 discussed in this thread is turbo only.

I believe CFBA was never offered in the UK and is only really found outside the EU.

On a side note, does anyone know whether CAXC is EU5 compliant? Been trying to find out.
