Hi guys im going to take the backbox off on saturday and im very curious of how it will sound, i know there are many pd 170 cars with straight pipes on but cannot find any threads about the cr 170. In the near future i will also be removing the dpf as i already have stage 1 and i want more power already after only a month. What will my car sound like with just dpf in place and i aint worried if its too loud as my last car was a stage 3 astra vxr with non res loud exhaust.

it shouldn't be to bade

The reason my PD170 was so loud was because it was 3" from Cat-back and had no boxes at all, I had a fake box welded onto it so it looked like it had a middle box and that Echo'd the sound

yeah i didnt think it would be to bad but just curious how the cr sounds with a straight pipe as i like the sound of the pd. i will be going 3" once my warrenty is out and i will be doing some more interesting mods as the cr gets more development.

the 3" will be cominging in the future and hopfully along side a darkside gtb kit with 3" down pipe and exhaust also when injectors are availble with a better flow rate i will source them. i want to build a 300bhp cr but only time will tell realy as they are still a very undeveloped engine in the tuning world. the reason i want to do this is because before the fr i had a stage 3 vxr with 300bhp and 320ftpd and i bought it standard and made it stage 3 by the end of the first month lol i loved every minute of owning it but my bank account didnt like the £600 a month fuel bill. i just want to build a very quick diesel and not get 20mpg at the end of it lol.

SEAT Sport ran both the PD170 and CR170 at 260bhp in WTCC with DPF in place so 300will be easily achievable with the CR (Easier ECU to work with than the PD170)

yeah i am going to take it easy over the next year by just doing handling and braking mods and then see whats on the market from then onwards for the ways to make safe power.

Problem is with 2.0TDI tuning... everybody does Stage1/2 and then stops there..

Why? because nobody is prepared to guineapig

Me,Wee G and Kilner started pushing the PD170 to new limits... Kilner has gone alot further than we did though.

Somebody is going to have to step up and do the same with the CR170

as i said i want to be sensible and do all of the surrounding mods first and if know one guinepigs by then i will but who would you sugest for a cr custom map with a big turbo, i know none of the tuners have yet to map a big turbo cr but there got to be one thats more knowledgable than others.

funny thing is like you said there is only a few people that has been guinepigs for the pd but the cr has been out 3 years and nobody has yet stepped up lol

Yeh nobody has

you need to get somebody who is prepared to spend time mapping it properly, not just a simple flash in a day job

Kilner is mapping his own now as hes given up on mappers... hes already fixed a problem his car had with cold starts in the mapping.

im prepared to spend time working on the car fitting all parts and possibley custom some parts as im in the trade but mapping is out of my reach i think i will do alot of research before jumping all heads in because the map means everything and i need someone who will be prepared to spend plenty of time in doing a custom map.

yeah i will try and get a video on here once ive done it as there seems to be a few people asking the same questions about backbox removal with no definate awnser. so soon there will be one.

as to mapping its easy to find someone to do stage 1 or 2 but then knowone from there onwards.
Who would you sugest for a stage 2 plus map as i currently have a p-torque stage 1, its very smooth but i think the print out is very inflated feals about 200bhp and 300ftpf but graph shows 213bhp and 349ftpd. bhp is most probable there abouts but torque figure way out as my old pd 150 was alot quicker with 210bhp and 320ftpd

This would be me if:
1) I didn't have DSG
2) didn't have kids (cash!)

I also fear that the CR is too "friendly" of an engine, compared to the PD.
Stupid things like the cams being altered for the DPF regen cycle and stuff...no need when you're looking to push past 300hp.

Having said that, the CR does seem easier to tweak (ECU).

I haven't finished studying the CR engine yet. But from what I've seen, it seems to be aimed at reducing emissions while delivering a smoother distribution of power throughout the range.

Also, the turbo spec seems a bit lacklustre for the flow of the block. I'd love to see the turbo maps but I'd suspect it could comfortably handle a larger turbo without any risk of surge.

I'd love to see people take the CR to higher levels.

Just remember PD will always feel faster because of the way it delivers the torque, PD is a massive punch of torque where as CR is very smooth delivery (petrol Like)

MY Petrol LCR felt slow around town at Stage1/1+ because im so used to the torque of the PD, at stage2+ it feels alot better now though :p
