Lol i love all the petrol freaks!

The fact is guys diesels CAN shift!
My old boy has got a 335d and i would own that before i owned any leon

I had a bit of a run with a Civic Type R, pulled behind it both in 5th and he was pulling away but not by much and he had gained maybe about 20 - 30 foot by the time we hit 120 and had to slow down (On private roads obviously), and that was in my standard 150 pd mk1 leon, I have since had it remapped and think that there wouldnt really be anything in it.

The Type R was a guy I worked with, and I know its not a Cupra, but a good comparison performance wise.

The pd lumps are underestimated just because they are diesel doesn't mean they are slow. From 40mph onwards they are fast espically when remapped. It's just the first and second gear that let them down in the 0-60 times because you can't get to 60mph in 2nd gear in a tdi.

I can. And I can do a 5sec 0-60 time with 220-230bhp.

And I still know an LCR will destroy a mapped pd130

Yeah as above they can shift off the line!

With a hybrid turbo you can blast most things off the line! Type r's were my favourite off the line! No vtec until 20000rpm and by that time they're covered in soot

Diesels are deceiving; they feel a lot faster than they are. I had a mapped Fabia vRS with around 180bhp and 310ftlb (PD130) and moved from that to a 1.8T MK4 Ibiza Cupra. The Fabia felt MUCH faster, when in reality they were pretty similar.

yea ino where your coming from, i had a pd130 mk4 ibiza mapped to about the same and moved to a LCR and the cupra feels alot slower when its just the same and better top end pull

Don't for get people compereing Leon's over fabias and ibiza the Leon is a bigger car so will feel slower any way even IF they where as powerfull as each other smaller cars feel faster even when there not

Fabia vrs is only 20kg's lighter than a tdi 150 leon! (Nothing)

I think its more to do with the turbo, the 130 turbo is punchy low down and comes on boost quicker, my mate has a standard fabia vrs and it does feel around town a lot quicker than my 200bhp pd150, get to the open road and the leon swamps it

Very mature lol. I do love my LCR and I loved my FR+ tdi but there too different cars in way of power delivery etc

Personally couldn't care if someone's diesel or petrol or gas power rocket ship is faster than my car as long as I'm happy with it. Surely that's why we mod our cars not for some pub talk power figures and 1/4mile times

All this Hi-Fi spec sheet comparison is just guesswork. On the track or on the road is where it matters. And what do you mean by fastest anyway? Off the line - diesel, top speed, petrol, quarter mile - depends on the driver.

For real world everyday use I prefer my diesel because I use the low-end power all the time, and the diesel has more low-end power than the LCR. I've posted about this before.

The LCR will win a race to top speed because it has time to get to peak power and stay there, the diesel has to shift gear earlier and runs out of rpm - and of course it depends on how good you are at speed shifting without breaking the box. Round the track, the LCR has weight and handling on its side (not a lot though, the Sport suspension is quite good) but needs a good driver to exploit both.

So, steffy, when you say "faster" do you mean off the line, in traffic, on a drag strip, round a racetrack, on empty country roads (good luck finding any)? The answer will be different for each . . .

I had a go in mine last night to see what it did in gear

150 tdi mapped

2nd 60mph
3rd 85mph
4th 110mph

Pulls right to 5k

I dont think those figures are too shabby! Still had another 2 gears to go
