Need to change my car for a more economical car as I'm doing circa 100 mile commute to work each day. Dead easy, straight up the A3 to Guildford.

Currently got a Volvo S40 T5, which likes a drink, so looking to change.

Been looking at:

Volvo V40 D3 R - this would be through a lease.

SEAT LEON 2.0 TDI SUPERCOPA CR FR+ 5-Door HATCHBACK

BMW 320d M sport touring.

Seat is a 62 plate with 2k on the clock and the BMW is a 2010 plate with 30k.

I'm probably heading to Snows used car event this weekend at some point to check out the other Seat and BMWs etc.

What's the views on the SEAT LEON 2.0 TDI SUPERCOPA CR FR+ 5-Door HATCHBACK

Yes I know the cars are massively different, but I'll be doing circa 25-30k

Well I have the petrol version which is rare and they are fantastic cars for the money. On my 4th Seat now never had no issues with them at all.

BMW sounds nice but you will be getting an older car for your money reliability wise I wouldn't say its any diff to the Seat.

I previously had a Seat Leon Cupra 03 plate, which was good. PX it for a Volvo S40 T5 after getting fed up people parking in my boot on the motorway etc.

Either way I think both will be much cheaper than running a S40 T5 that averages 30mpg and max I can get at 60mph on a run is about 35mpg!

Both of the cars are "old" tech as both have new models that have replaced them. I think Snows are also mentioning a 2013 Leon FR, but not sure re details etc.

Well I drive the 320d touring this afternoon, so we'll see. Both the Seat and BMW are up for circa £17k

It's a cracking car. There are 2 things wrong with it. The sound insulation under the bonnet is mouldy and it would be nice to have speed camera alerts on the nav too.

I agree ,
I had the bonnet insulation done under warranty and no issues so far , but i would love a camera database for the nav.

The others that may creep onto the list are the 120d and 123d BMW

Do any of the beemers you're looking at come with working indicators or did the previous owners not bother having that particular optional extra fitted?

No biased opinions from me but go for the SEAT :D

With all those miles every day - are you not interested in something more boring & economical?

But of the lot, the BMW

I would ask the same thing. I'm doing around 30-35k per year, and I'm running a 1.6TDI. Judging by the averages I see on this forum, I'm getting around 15-20mpg better out of this than the 2.0TDI.

I'd agree - even on a well behaved run the CR170 in mine puts in 55mpg - but it's easier to get 48!

The CR1.6 is a bit better, but the DSG isn't as good as a manual for economy IMO

i wouldnt get the 320d! they have timing chain problems look it up on google!

As much as I like my Leon I'd take the BMW over it any day of the week! Especially when you're doing high mileage as the higher quality interior and reduced NVH will be well appreciated.

Out of the choices you've said I'd go with the leon. I'm biased obviously. I wouldn't have a bmw if you paid me to. just my opinion of course.
