• Hi Guest There will be essential maintenance on the server on Monday 10th November from 5am meaning the website will be offline for a period of time. We will do everything to ensure the downtime is kept to a minimum.
Does anyone know when SEAT starting skimping on the stereo and speakers? The other half has a 09 1.4 sport and it has a fantastic system, the speakers are really bassy. Not sure if it was upgraded or not. Was there an option to upgrade the speakers when buying new?

Mine is a 60 plate with all 6 speakers.

As far as I know - there was no upgrade available but at some point the rear speakers were removed.

At the same time they removed the speakers - they became part of the bluetooth/usb option pack.

So I would make sure any car you look at has the bluetooth/usb option fitted so you know it has rear speakers.

Cheers, the car I'm looking at has Bluetooth, but no mention of USB. What does that involve?

Have a look under the stereo - there should be a USB port so you can connect a memory stick or phone or mp3 player to stream music through the stereo.

Haha grass is always greener Grapo...........

Actually SWMBO's Yaris needs swapping and I'm starting to like the idea of the FR as our second car. Having XDS, thicker ARB's, better springs and 215/4017 tyres is a nice starting point for a little project.

I saw earlier in the post 200bhp+ achievable, can anyone tell me what the highest tuned Ibiza FR 2.0tdi cr 143 is running powerwise and what modifications to get there?

Not sure what the highest power is but the 204bhp was achieved at P-Torque after just a DPF delete and a remap.

Now if you change the intercooler to a bigger one ( quite a cheap mod - see here - http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=386180 )

Add a better air filter

Change the exhaust

Who knows what is possible.

My list of upcomming tweeks is :-
Bigger brakes - 312mm setup ( up from 288mm and a straight bolt on mod )
Eibach -25mm springs ( good quality and not too low for todays roads )
Intercooler ( see above link )
Remap and DPF delete
JE Design rear spoiler ( prefer the look of it to the factory option )

Why do people do the DPF delete mod?

I'm not technically minded on the subject but understand the DPF is a filter after the engine has done its work, so how does it restrict the engine?

Turbochargers like a nice free flowing exhaust to work efficiently

The DPF is like shoving a big chunk of wire wool up the exhaust.

Removing the wire wool ( restriction ) frees up the turbo.

BUT

Most people do it to remove a potential issue in the future with the DPF ( replacements are currently £1500 ish )

The DPF can be removed and the car re-mapped to a very reliable 185+hp ( 200+ if you want ) - and it can still do 60+ mpg on a run.

Now a MOT failure to not have a DPF.

WINTER
I do 3 miles each way drive to work.
Twice a month I do 50miles each way to the airport.
Now and again I need to take a 15 minute trip down a motorway to complete a re-gen.

I still average 47+mpg week to week

SUMMER
I do 3 miles each way drive to work.
Twice a month I do 50miles each way to the airport.
At the weekend I end up doing between 100 and 150 mile round trips to trail centres for mountainbiking.

I then average 56+mpg week to week

Thats probably enough to do a regen, the 1.6tdi I have in my loan Leon if driven at a constant speed will do it in no time. I think its more a problem for people who drive short trips all the time. i.e no motorway use.

If the DPF has been visibly removed it will fail. agreed

Providing the exhaust system LOOKS like all the parts are there and the car passes the emissions test it will pass an MOT

EDIT - I have spoken to the local MOT station - it is a VISUAL inspection to look for things like DPF & CAT delete pipes that have become popular.

Damn it!!

Good luck with the viewing tomorrow.

Just remember the grass isn't always greener (advice I should take myself sometimes!) but hope all go's well.

Test drove this morning and I'm picking it up Wednesday. It's a pre facelift speed blue with a great spec

Nice,

Pleased for you mate sure you'll enjoy it.

I managed to convince the wife she needed to trade in her old Corsa so picking up a pre-reg Hyundai i10 (style) for her on Wed.

We have them as pool cars in work and they're quite 'fun' in respect that you can drive it like you stole it but are actually doing 30moh (and have a nice warm bum with the heated seats).

Should keep me happy for a few months then i'll look to change mine as well!

Enjoy the new car mate. Get a 'box' on it straight away...... good fun!

Did you find out if it had bluetooth and the USB port ?

Yeah it had both :)

Also pleased it has electric folding mirrors and dimming rear view mirror. Along with other things like auto lights and wipers, cruise control, rear sensors. Only thing it doesn't have is xenon lights or sun roof.

Is there any way to make the mirrors fold up automatically when locking the car?

Electric Mirrors are standard
Cruise control is standard

Autodim mirror was an option
Auto lights & wipers was an option
Rear Parking sensors was an option

Xenons was a very expensive option - not too many with it fitted
Roof was also an expensive option

Nice spec

EDIT - no - the mirrors will not auto fold - many have tried.
