I'm hoping to do one at the end of the month and I'm looking for advice.

What kind of prep work did you do to the car prior to putting the car on???

Mine has just been serviced and also had new front brakes along with new fluid. The tyres are very good also.

What else do you need to check???
 
Slightly overfill with oil, Im mean slightly, not too much. Stops oil starvation high G's on cornering.
What tyres have you got? Normal tyres wont last long on the track. Do a few laps then check your tyre pressures, you will probably have to let some air out so take a pressure gauge with you.
Also some blocks to put behind your wheels when the car is cooling down between sessions, dont use the handbrake.
Also take an extra container of fuel.

Eck, I take it by your location that you'll be going to Knockhill? I have a trackday booked on the 1st March, this the same one your going to??

Aye knockhill it is mate. Your on track Scotland I take it??? This will be my first time so kinda nervous lol. I have Goodyear F1 assy2's mate. Fronts are fairly new.

Knockhill is a cracking track, not been round in my own motor yet bug done a few days in different track cars!

Standard brakes should be fine provided the fluid has been recently changed i.e. it's less than a year or so old. Pads should be fine, but as richicupra said stick to 20 minute stints - looks after brakes and stops you getting too wound up and something going wrong.

All depends how hard you use them, track pads can handle higher temps. Soon as your brakes start fading it' time to do a slow cooling lap and head back to the pits for a break.

Yeah Im on Track Scotland, more of a lurker and dont post much.

I wouldnt worry about someone running into you. The track etiquette at Knockhill is very good. If you see a car in your rear mirror, means they are faster than you and you should keep to the right hand side of the track to let them past on the left.
I'd be more concerned about having a spin, especially if it's wet, I spun twice on my first trackday (wet and crap road tyres).
There are plenty first timers there so you wont be the only one. Just take your time and take it easy to start with until you build up confidence.

There are instructers at KH, the price should be included when you paid, well worth getting some lessons from them. [B)]
 
Yeah deffo, you will notice a big difference and will be able to go a good few laps more without fading.

Carbotech or Performance Friction pads are usually quite good.
